Have any of you had a myelogram? If so, did you have a headache and nausea afterwards? They said it may last for three or four days...if I live that long. If any of you did, what did you do for it? I take Lortabs but they don't help. I can't take anything stronger because almost all pain meds make me sick and they said I can't take phenergan (for nausea) for three more days. Any ideas?? Thanks

Did you already have a myelogram or are you having one? I had one last July but did not get the spinal headache. If you wanted to know about having one PM and I will be glad to give you the details of the one I had.
I hope you are ok and get the relief you need.
Take care,
Stacey

Broken mom of two lovely girls, 2 & 4yo. L4L5 Laminectomy, Then revision 5 weeks later, found out had broken vertebrae, 2 large bone spurrs, severe re-herniation, removed facet joint. Currently have herniated L4L5 (again!) as well as L5S1 plus an annular tear. Not a surgeon in site will help me due to the damage caused in 1st surgery.
Poollady,
I had one done and I was in so much pain with my head I went to the ER and told them that I have had an Myleogram that day all they did was give me caffine in a bag through IV of course that didn't help it, so I went back to the ER and told them that I needed an Blood Patch they gave me more meds and told me to go sleep it off. lol yeah sleep? I went back the next day wearing my same braclet the day before and they let me in the back where the ER Nurses were and I told them that I needed to get an Blood Patch done they sent me upstairs finally to have it done.
I was so sick, seeing doubles, and never could sleep until I had the patch done.
I have herniated L4-S1 which was confirmed by MRI and XRay now I am scheduled for a myleogram next week and I am scared out of my mind, since many of you have had them done what am I going to go through and how painful is it..I have had ESI's, trigger points, Lamenectomy at L4-5to remove a cyst 3 years ago, now I am in terrible pain again and take very strong meds which don't help....I am really scared about this test...Please be honest and tell me what to expect from the time I get there and leave....Thanks
The test itself doesn't really hurt. They gave me something to relax me before they started the procedure. The needle they numb you with is only a sting and when they insert the other one, it's more pressure than anything. I don't want to scare you because I can't find anyone on here that's had this happen to them..when they injected the dye, I had terrible lower back/butt pain. They said it was the dye irritating the nerves there. So they immediately gave me an injection of fenytal (sp?) or something. When they took me to my room, I did have a pretty bad headache, I'm prone to them anyway. What hurt me worst though and still does is my lower back. I had it for my cervical spine and it made my back hurt. It's been over four weeks ago and I'm still in pain. Like I said though, this is evidently very rare. If it wasn't for this pain, the test wouldn't have been bad at all. They will make sure you're comfortable. If you let them know how nervous you are, they'll take care of you. I know how it is to dread something like this. You'll do fine though. Take care. Debbie

thanks for your feed back......I am just nervous because I am having this done as an out patient and when I called the place they said that you dont need any type of sedation or for relaxation but I freak out when I get an MRI,have to get ativan.....I hope they have something there but I have valium and my own meds I can take if i have to......I was just told I had to sit upright for about 5 hours to avoid getting headaches (I am not prone to them thank God)...they are going into the L4-L5 area and I had surgery there 3 years ago so I have concerns about scar tissue blockage, etc. but again thanks for the feed back and I will let you all know how it turns out....I am one who believes in telling someone the whole truth before a test, what is to be expected and the after effects...I know everyone reacts differently but knowing what to expect is very important.
