I have been studying this disease since my stenosis has gotten worse and have spoken to many in the spine industry. Laminectomy relieves pain howver creates instabilities. The coflex in clinical trials is a dynamic implant that controls the motions post laminectomy and has been implanted over 10,000 times in Europe. Xstop is just a chunk of metal that resorbs bone. Ive done the research and this is the best treatment if YOU HAVE TO HAVE SURGERY.
Hey B
Just had the spinal laminectomy done 10 days ago, I have to tell you it's the best thing I have done.I had so much pain going down both legs I could not do much of anything, couldn't walk any distance, couldn't stand for longer than 5 min. before the pain was unbearable. I would have sit down when I went shopping, I'm 57 years old and have a lot of life to live and now it will be pain free. Best thing I have done, get the surgery
Hubby is scheduled for same surgery about six months from now and I am getting scared reading of surgeries that failed. He is 65 and has no other health problems and no nerve damage that the surgeon could see.
What is it like after the surgery? How long will he be laid up? He is not an easy man to keep inactive for long. And how soon did you start to feel relief from pain after the surgery?
I know just what you mean about having to sit down when you are shopping.
So many stories about people being in awful pain after surgery. SCARY!
Grade 2 spondylolisthesis causing severe stenosis + DDD
L4/L5 decompression (laminectomy) and PLIF 19th March 2010
Herniations at T12/L1, T9/T10 and T8/T9 (mildly indenting cord)
Significant cervical spondylosis from C3-C7
C3/C4 and C4/C5 are compressing the cord (mild to moderate)
Waiting 6 months to see how much worse things get
Went to surgeon who performed fusion at L4-L5 with laminectomy in June 2004 on Tuesday, Nov 17. Told me he THINKS it is the same condition returning but without MRI cannot tell for sure. Told me to come back when I want him to "fix it." I am not ready for that painful, long recovery time again any time soon. Took about 3 years before I felt like my back was OK and here I am again. Going the chiropractic route and PT if necessary before resorting to surgery. Why doesn't my PCP prescribe pt before sending me to the surgeon who doesn't treat back pain but only want to cut?????
I request PT from my neuro when I feel I'm in need of it. I'm completing my current PT in two days. I have an appt to see my surgeon 12/01. I don't think I'm seeing him any too soon.
