Hello all - I am new to this. I was diagnosed about 3 months ago with spondy 1. I am in alot of pain most of the time. I was advised that I should cease all activity. Sports activity of course. But that is like taking the air I breathe away. I love tennis, volley ball raquet ball, bike riding etc. When I was told I needed to give up all of this. I truly was floored. However, in reading all of your entries I am surprised to see so many are still so active. But tennis is my true passion. It is not as extremely contact as the sport of football but it is very high impact sport. Does anyone play tennis? How do you feel? What do you recommend. I am bordering on depression here because of this and this forum here has given me a glimpse of hope. Please advise. Anyone.

Welcome to Spine Health. First off what kind of doctor diagnosed the spondy and told you to cease all activity? If it was a primary care physician, I would recommend asking for a referal to PT and to a spine specialist.
Yes there are tons of us that go back to being active "no matter the cost". Some will modify based on restriction of their hardware or implants, however they will still "go for it".
Welcome aboard,

Hi and welcome to Spine-Health. Below is a link to some pointers our moderator Ron put together to help new members with the forum.
How were you diagnosed? Did you get an MRI or what? I agree that telling you to cease all the activities you love is like a knife in the back (no pun). Did the doctor who diagnosed you give you options other than to lay in bed all day and to be careful how you move (so to speak)? PM me if you need someone to discuss this with!!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact (PM) any one of the Moderators here Priestess , Bruce , Paulgla , DiLauro

Hello Jeeeneee, welcome to SH. This is a great site for information and support. I too have a Spondy 1st degree and had PLIF four weeks ago. Tell us more about yourself. Were you diagnosed with MRI? What are your symptoms? What treatments have you tried? Do you have pars fractures? Is your spondy unstable? How long have you had back problems?
Often times rest is the first line of treatment for a back problem. It is nice to meet you, Sue
