Stop Smoking
Tips for Quitting

These are some tidbits I learned that helped me tremendously. Knowing what was happening during the withdrawal phase really helped me get through it.

FIRST AND FOREMOST: Smoking is NOT a habit. It is an addiction to nicotine! This addiction is just like any other. If you treat it like any other, and realize that you may never again partake in the ingestion of nicotine, then you'll never have to worry about smoking again.

Smile Nicotine only stays in your body for about 72 hours (3 days), so once you've gone 3 days nicotine free, you are free of the withdrawl symptoms and are only dealing with cravings...which are just as bad. Evil But, if you can make it the first 3 days, you can make it through anything.

Smile Cranberry juice helps to flush out your system.

Smile Nicotine cuts the effects of caffeine in HALF! This will cause caffeine users to get the jitters or feel jumpy when they quit smoking. Its like having 2 cups of coffee instead of just one. Knowing this, if you watch your caffeine intake, you can help alleviate those odd feelings when you quit.

Smile Smoking affects blood sugar levels, and a lot of what you think are nicotine withdrawal symptoms are actually low blood sugar issues. Eating can take up to 20 mins to affect blood sugar, while the interactions caused by nicotine can be almost instantaneous.

There are tons more bits of info at the website www.whyquit.com, but these were most critical in helping me quit. But, above all else, you have to remember to Never Take Another Puff!

I don't know

I quit for 5 years and found that the worst part of it was the habit. I could not do things that I did while smoking that would trigger my craving such as drink coffee, sit on my back porch where I used to smoke. I say that a good part of it is habit.
