massage yesterday

i had a massage two days ago and still feel bruised. She said that she couldn't get all the knots out so asked me to come back next week to get a good work out. She is a very good massage therapist but how many of you feel bruised after your massages? Thanks for the input. Sharon

Hi Sharon

I think massage feels pretty good during but afterwards I felt sore. I've only been once in the 3 years since I hurt my back I could use another one. Was it painful while she was doing the massage?

I would ask her to ease up a little if this is new to you. But I've heard Ron Dilauro go to Deep tissue massage and how it feels better afterwards. Maybe ice afterwards. Take care. Charry

Sharon, what kind of massage therapist do you see?

There are many different styles and techniques regarding massage therapy.
It can range from the easy cosmetic Swedish massages to the Intense Deep Tissue massage.

As Charry pointed out, I've been going to a Deep Tissue massage specialist for over 5 years now. Even within the Deep Tissue massage styles there are variations. The person I see is trained in the original Thai Deep Tissue massage.

All of my sessions are painful, some so much more than others. Over the years, I have gotten used to much of it. Still, when I am on the floor and he walks and jumps on my back or digs into my thighs, IT-band or calves it hurts, intense pain, but it last only while the pressure is being put on.

I will feel very sore the first night. He also suggests icing the areas he worked and using a good tropical ointment. I can be very tender to the touch for several days.

But, there has always been progress and the end results are always good.

This man is responsible for keeping me out of a wheelchair and for giving me almost full range of motion after my two complete shoulder replacements.

So, you can see I am a big fan of massage. So much depends on what type is being done.

Drink lots of water!

I've had deep tissue and it makes you very sore if they really hit on a tight muscle that is refusing to budge.

Drink lots of water and don't exercise for a couple of days. Then do some sort of stretching if you can. Stiff muscles need stretching input to move.

When I say lots of water I mean at least a gallon after the massage. Closer to 2 gallons. You're trying to help flush the toxins out of the muscles. It'll help with the inner bruising and pain.
