ALIF recovery time - I need a ballpark PLEASE :o)

My surgeon was very vague when I asked about recovery time..with good reason, I'm sure. Everyone is different-absolutely. But I would like to know what the average is before returning to work.
So if you have had this procedure, how long were you out before released to go back to work?? Please respond/ the more feedback, the more accurate the average..Thanks :o)

I'm having a two level ALIF,

I'm having a two level ALIF, and my spinal surgeon told me to expect to be off of work (desk job) for about six weeks. As far as real recovery, I don't know how long that will take.

Time off

Like you said, each person is different. I also had a 2 level 360 ALIF w/hardware and I was back to work in about 6 weeks. But, that was way too soon. I should have taken a few weeks longer. I would say plan for 12 weeks, but be happy with 6 weeks. It just depends.

Thanks,

I have estimated 12 weeks to my employer, just wanted to see how close I was to the average.

I have a fairly physical

I have a fairly physical job, lifting children in and out of wheelchairs to mats on the floor and dealing with aggresive students. I am at 15 weeks now and expect to take another 3 months off. My job is very unpredictable, so my doctor and I feel its not worth the risk of injury to myself or my students to go back to soon.

It really depends on your pre surgery status, your healing and if your job can be modified to fit your restrictions. Just take it easy and dont rush it!
