cervical spinal fusion and boniva

hello I had cervical fusion at c 5-6 with graft and metal plate. I had been taking boniva (only 2 months). Doctor said I must stop it for at least 3 months. I planned on stopping anyways due to side effects But, WHY do they not want you on boniva while healing? I know he told me, but I can't remember.

I was taking FOSAMAX, but I

I was taking FOSAMAX, but I think they probably have the same affect. While normally they help replacing bone cells, after fusion the way they work interferes with what fusion surgery hopes to achieve (different kind of bone growth). I don't understand it completely, my OS explained it to me when I was still suffering from "dull brain" due to anesthetics, but it made a lot of sense to me then. So I just accept it. I am 3 month post-surgery, so the OS said it is OK to take FOSAMAX now, but I want to be on the safe side and I'll wait for 6 months.
