Hi, All--
I am now 10 1/2 weeks post op for L4-S1 PLIF. I have been in severe pain for about 2 weeks now (mostly in my left buttocks cheek area). The OS says it is from the bone graft site. However, the pain is just horrible, even with the pain meds. I have been taking Percocet 5/325 since the surgery & was down to only 2 a day before this pain started. I have lately been taking 8 or more a day. Yesterday the OS gave me Oxycontin 20 mg, but it does not seem to be helping.....I realize they are both the same drug, with the Oxycontin being a controlled release, acetaminophen-free form vs. the Percocet being immediate release with the added acetaminophen. I am right now in AGONY. The OS is not in the office today....Does anyone know if it is safe to take both drugs at the same time? I took the Oxycontin at 4:30 AM, but it doesn't feel like I took anything!

You should be able to take the OC 20 mg twice a day and the percocet every 3-4 hours if you need it. The answer is yes, you can take them together..
Is there an ER you can call? Poison control, maybe? Maybe your pharmacy has advice! You should be seeking this advice from a professional.
Good luck!
When my pain is not controled by my meds-I use a heating pad and bed rest. Usually if I stop moving my pain abates. I know some people can't always do that, but hope it is something you can try while looking for someone who can help.
Whenever I have a question about mixing meds, I always call them. They will give you the answer.

I will call the pharmacist.....should have thought of that one, but I'm hurting so much I can't think clearly! :''(

but that was with my doctor's approval.
The combination you are talking about should be safe, but
we can only give you advice based on our personal experiences.
Before changing or altering any medications, you need to contact your Doctor to run it by them. If there is NO doctor available (always should be a backup) then discuss this with your pharmacy.
You never want to change medications because we can not identify any potential drug interactions
