severe foot pain 13 weeks following spinal fusion

Hi im Tracy 45 from Blackpool UK.
I hope ive posted in the correct place as im new to the forum.

I had a spinal fusion of my 3 lowest vertebrae and nerve root decompression left leg 13 weeks ago.
Since surgery I have had pain in my right lower leg and foot, and kept being told its inflammed nerves and will settle. At about 8 weeks I did start to feel more positive about my recovery and slowly increased my walking. However I am now 13 weeks and for the last couple of weeks my foot pain has dramatically increased making it excrutiating most of the time particularly during the smallest of walks. My lower leg remains very sore as well.

I had a CT scan and saw the Registrar yesterday for a review. My CT scan doesnt show any problems and I was told that there was no obvious reason for my pain.

I take Oxycodone 10mg twice, Pregablin 150mg twice daily and Paracetamol as my pain relief.

I am a nurse and cant work or drive and feel very low.
Can anyone offer any advice or let me know if you suffer the same post operative complications. I do call it a complication because I had no pain in my right foot or leg prior to surgery.

I havent started physiotherapy yet as the hospital have messed me around, but do hope to start soon. A nerve conduction test has been requested for me as well.

Its all so frustrating because my back pain is 80% better than before surgery.

Thank you for listening x
Tracy

Foot and Leg Pain

I had some nerve issues after surgery but not as bad as you have described. I asked my Dr. about Lyrica and he perscribed me some. It did make a huge difference for me once I was on it for a week or so. You might ask your Dr. if he thinks it might help you. Some use Neurontine which is also used for nerve pain.

Thanks Keith and Ray for

Thanks Keith and Ray for replying. Keith im on Pregablin which is Lyrica maybe I need to try increasing it, will ask GP when I next see him. Ray hope you start to feel better sounds really bad glad mine is only 1 leg.
I dont regret having the surgery because my back is loads better but my foot/leg pain is worse than my back was, hope time will heal.

LYRICA

Keith I cant thank you enough. I mentioned about the Lyrica and on your reply you said about your weight gain I have put on 14 lbs since it was increased to 150mg twice daily, about 16 weeks ago. I know i may have comfort eaten because of how im feeling post surgery but not enough to gain so much. I never knew about the weight gain and ...im a nurse !! Thanks again. Now how do I get the weight off !!!!
