Still hurting after Spinal Fusion that was 2 years and 3 months ago....

Hello Old Friends and New soon to be Friends.....

I have not been on here for so long that I had to register again..I forgot my old name...LOL.

I had a 2 level posterior spinal fusion done on July 28th of 2008....the road to recovery has been hell for me! Only one good thing is after my surgery I can lift my right foot up, I could not do that before!!

I am in pain all the time....both legs but mainly my right. On one of my check-ups after the surgery I was talking with the surgeon and telling him about how I still hurt and some of it is new pain in new places...he informs me that the levels above my fusion are starting to go bad sooner than he thought they would! What am I going to do.....the hospital stay for 4 days for my surgery was over a quarter of a million dollars!!! :jawdrop: I cant go through another one...not mentally, physically or financially!!!

Then this morning my little dog knocked something over at 1am...I JUMP out of bed and then it hits me....severe PAIN...from the middle of my shoulder blades all the way down to my toes!!!! OMG, I dont know how much more I can go through!!

Thank you for letting me vent!!!

Polly

Hi Polly

Welcome back to the forum! I hope we can become friends and help each other out.

I had 2-level PLIF two weeks ago, today, and am doing very well, aside from a couple of days of really nasty nerve pain which we don't know for sure the cause (thank God for Lyrica).

Are you still in the same pain you had in the night when you jumped up? I realize that without insurance you're between a rock and a hard place but I hate to think of you having that bad pain and not being able to do anything about it. Do you have any pain meds which can help you along until this hopefully goes away?

    Hi Linda.....

Hello new friend...lol....I am really really glad that you are doing SO well!! I always get so excited when other Spineys get releif!!! YEAH!!!

I have a running perscription of Viacodine and have Percocet for the really bad pain......most days it works ok but since the other night not so much!! I also use MMJ at night so I can sleep through the night but then I hurt BAD in the mornings!!

I have always had a very bad back since I got hit by a car when I was 9...my ribs pop out of place if I sneeze/cough/move wrong and I have to put them back in.....

Oh sometimes I just want to give up....but my AWESOME Hubby and my 18 year old daughter keep me trudging along!! Without them I probably would NOT be here!!

Has anyone heard of High Altitude making a bad back worse?? I live in Colorado, we are up pretty high, and we went for a week vacation to California.....I only had to take a couple pain pills the WHOLE time we were there....even after an 18 hour car ride, only stopping to use the bathroom!! Since we have gotten back to Co I have been hurting worse!! Any thoughts??

Ok sorry for my novel....its just really great to know there are others who understand!!!

    Morning, Polly

I'm glad you've got pain meds. Am on oxycodone at the moment since I'm very early post-op but my surgeon wants me to start weaning off of it so I can switch to Vicodin.

What an interesting question, about altitude. We live in Montana, close to the mountains, so we're at about 4500 feet elevation. I've also had lumbar back pain since my younger years (age 25 for me) and have always had pain and stiffness when on long car drives. For you to drive 18 hours with only bathroom breaks and not have pain is amazing.

I'm so thankful for you that you have an awesome husband and daughter. It sounds like the chronic pain has brought you right to the brink at times. I'm so sorry for that but glad that your family is such a great support for you. You'll find several spineys here who do not enjoy that kind of family support and it's a sad situation. Bless your husband and daughter for being such a good support to you.

Am going to see if your Facebook link takes you to your profile.

    Sending healing thoughts your way...

    Linda

    Thank you Linda......

Thank you for the healing thoughts....they mean ALOT to me!!!

And yes I am SOOOO BLESSED to have the family that I have!! My Hubbies oldest daughter, who we have not been able to have contact with in 18+ years, found us a few months ago....her and her wife are the reason we went to California. We are originally from Ca and we are planning on moving back to Ca on Jan 7th!! We are SOO excited!! So all 4 of them are lecturing me that I cant help pack/move but they dont know me very well...I am VERY stubborn!! LOL

I look forward to getting to know you better and I also send healing/soothing thoughts your way!!!!

    Thanks

    Thanks, Polly. Smile

You sound very excited at the prospect of moving back to CA. I hope the time goes fast for you. Do be careful with the packing and moving. I'm a stubborn person, too, but that can leave you hurting when you do things you know you shouldn't. You pay for it later!

Sent you a PM--you'll need to find me on FB.
