I am a new member on these forums. I just posted my first topic in the Lower Back forum. I am having an issue with my pain management doctor. I've been to four different PM docs and I keep having issues because I am 24.
So I went to my first PM doctor and he was really good, but he wanted me to get an Epidural right away, but at the time my insurance was investigating me to see if I had a pre-existing condition. So he gave me 90 5/325 percs for the month and said if I couldn't get an epidural by the time the script was done I wouldn't be able to go back to see him. I was forced to go back to my PCP for medication. He was only giving me 60 perc 10's at a time so I found a second PM.
I went to the second PM doc and she put me on Lyrica, and continued the Percocet and then she gave me the same ultimatum about getting an epidural. I was still under investigation, so I was uncomfortable getting an 11,000 dollar procedure if my insurance wasn't going to cover it. She ended up calling me a liar and a drug addict. Even though she worked in the same hospital as my mom.
My PCP switched me from percocet to oxycontin. But he took me from 6 perc 10's a day to 20mg OC every 12 hours. I was in SOOO much pain I had to try and find another pm that would be understanding.
I found a guy that has several office locations and runs an office at night in my area. I had heard good things about him. He was the first person to treat me like a human being and he was the first one to do an EMG. He took care of me and finally started medicating me so I could be comfortable. But he is always late, his office is a mad house. There are some normal people there, but I can definitely see that there are a fair share of drug seekers. I feel so uncomfortable because I am a totally legit pain management patient. I've gotten two Transforaminal Epidurals from him, and I trust him. But like I said, his office drives me NUTS!
So I went to a fourth doctor for just a consultation and he told me I am on way too much medication without ever even seeing my EMG. My MRI shows nerve impingement on 4 different levels. I didn't ask for any medication, I just went to get a consulation. He spoke at me, not to me. I left the office in tears because I try to be as conservative as possible with my meds.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find a regular pain management doctor in Central NJ that isn't going to treat me like a child or a drug addict. I feel like all the doctors around me just do injections and no meds. I not trying to be a drug seeker, I am just trying to get the right amount of meds so I can work and do what I need to do. I am frustrated, scared, and at my wits end.
