I have permanent nerve damage and getting a pain pump

Greetings to all~

I suffered for 5 years and through 6 back surgeries BEFORE finding my hero doctor who gave me my life back. My spine had fallen due to L-5 having collapsed. It was now smashing my L5 S-1 nerve root. ( motor- sensory nerve) L-4 was herniated also. I also had a spinal cord stimulator implant put in my a money hungry pain management doctor. The spinal cord implant was taken out when I had my "flexible" fusion done. Now I have permanent nerve damage thanks to all the quack doctors who were more interested in my medical insurance than me. I can't have another S.C. implant due to scar tissue so I am going this monday to see if I am qualified for a pain pump. I currently take 30-50 milligrams of methadone, percoset for break through pain and neurotin for pain also. The oral meds are not working anymore. I have been reading all the posts on pain pumps, some scary, some not.. My question: Is it worth it? The spinal cord stim. was not working because they put in it without doing surgery to fix my fallen spine. (idiots) I'm not looking forward to another implant but if it allows me to lay in a bed once again, put her in! Any advice? Love to hear from everyone. Can you get MRI's once it is in? What are the draw backs? Do they put methadone in the pumps?
Thank you,

I also have nerve damage on

I also have nerve damage on the l5 nerve root from adr surgery. I had 2 scs trials 1 before my surgery and 1 after surgery failed and caused the nerve damage. Scs failed both times to control the pain,

Finaly decided to give the pain pump a try, soon as they put it in for the trial i came home and i had spinal leak for full 7 days of the trial, Felt like my head was going to explode so finaly trial was over and had it removed from my spinal fluid,

Even after that spinal leak was there so they finaly did a blood patch what should of been done while the trial was still going on,

I had morphine in the pump but i realy could not tell if it was helping or not because i could not get out of bed for the 7 days to have the normal trial, they usualy use morphine or they can use delaudin of person has alergy to morphine,

There is other meds they can add i believe, Good luck,

Flexicore ADR 2004 resulting nerve damage l4l5 Fusion 2006 same level, 2009 hardware removal with lami !

Scottydog....

Welcome to Spine Health.

I have a pain pump implant and it is the very best thing I could have done for myself. I love the pain it gives me. I can now take 3 oral pain pills a day but the only time I need one is when I am having a flair up. Days can go by before I have to take one. Before I had my pump implant I was taking a pain pill every 4 hours.

I do not think they put methadone in pain pumps. I have diladuid in mine. I can't take morphine because of side effects.

Yes, you can have a MRI with a paqin pump implant. Just let them know you have one before they do the MRI.

A pain pump is about the size of a hocky puck and is implanted between your hip bone and ribs....in your side. Tell the Doctor which side you want it on depending which side you sleep on. Mine protudes a bit but that is no biggie for me. I have the larger size that only has to be refilled every 6 months.

I started a thread about my pain pump implant several months ago in this forum. It tells you just about anything you want to know about pain pumps. It has about 144 comments in it and is 3 pages long. I think it is on page 2 of this forum.

You can PM me and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have on this subject.

Cheers :H
