Lower leg Pain

I have recently had a kyphoplasty at T12 and 2 more at L4 and L 5 due to metastatic prostate cancer collapsing my vertebrae. The Op was successful and the symptoms of my spinal cord compression are reducing day by day except...

I have quite a swollen lower right leg , this has been gradually reducing over the last 3 weeks however. Have a pain in my leg at the side near my knee that feels like its in the bone. The pain is bad enough to keep me awake all night despite pain killers including morphine , diclofenac, paracetamol etc. it's so bad now that I can't touch my leg without wincing, mthe skin seems puffed up and swollen more today too.

Yesterday, the pain was barely noticeable and the leg seemed less swollen, my hospital suggest its just part of the post op recovery and it's not unusual to experience pain. They are oncologists and not expert in spinal surgery, they have looked at my latest scans but these are pre op and not much help.

I was wondering if massage may help the pain as it seems related to the swelling, any help would be much appreciated

Additional

Since my first post, there is no DVT and the GP is certain it's related to my spine and nerve root compression at L5 S1. Im referred back to the oncologist as its suspected disease progression which is likely to be solved with radiotherapy .

Hi Mark and Welcome

When I had knee pain due to swelling I went and got inferential treatment and ultrasound treatments done for my knee by a Chiropractor of course no adjustments.

I don't know if TED stocking would help or if it's knee issues on top of the sciatica? Maybe a Physiatrist could help with a consult on exercise or treatment?

I hope your Oncology treatments go well. Best wishes. Charry
