I saw my pain management doctor today and they want to try a new medication on me. It is the Opana ER with Oxycodone for breakthrough pain. What is every ones experience with this? Im really curious if I will actually get pain relief. ( Been along time since Ive had my pain under control). I currently take oxycodone 7.5 three times a day. Any feed back will be appreciated. This mix of meds will begin next month after my drug screen of today comes back. I am excited that my pain may be better controlled. Im really hoping to hear good feedback because the thought of my pain being more controlled is cause for celebration!

Anyone taking opana

is a good pain medication and most people have had good pain control results with it. I am taking it now , again, after stopping the fentanyl patches and trying the new formulation of Oxycontin so I am looking forward to some decent pain relief.
It is a formulation of oxymorphone and is stronger than oxycodone based medications.
Chronic pain patients really do have to give a new medication at least two weeks before making a decision about whether or not it is working for you. Especially when going from one medication to another, it is better to give it a month and at least one adjustment, if needed before deciding that it isn't working.

I just started to take Opana er and ir for break thru. Iwas on embedda and avinza before but myPM doc seems to think that morphine may not work too well on me.
Even after only a couple of days, my pain is better , more tolerable, but the effects of the medication do not last as long as I would like. I am waking up with lots of pain.
On the good side is that Opana is known to have anti- depressant qualities and it has significantly improved my mental well being.
I will keep you updated on how it's working for me
I have been taking 30 mg Opana ER for over a year with 5 mg Opana IR for breakthrough pain (4 per day) and I like them. I used to take 40 mg Oxycontin ER with the 5 mg Oxycodone IR. However, I think I got too used to taking the same thing for such a long time and needed a change and the change to Opana did work out well.
I had 6 lower lumbar surgeries in 5 years time.
I take 30mg opana twice a day and 10 mg. Oxycodone 3 times a day. Opana works much better than methadone for me.
I was on 30 of Embedda ( sloe release morphine) twice a day with percs 10/325 for bt pain.
I was switched last week to Opana er 10mg twice a day with 5mg for bt pain.
I started to go thru actual withdrawals and I was in so much pain! Chills, sweats, diarrhea, crawly leg feelings, stomach cramps, night sweats real bad.
Yesterday my doc told me to double my dosages. I took double last night and this morning. Was still sick this am but not as bad. Also, my pain levels have decreased significantly.
Here's to hoping for the best!
