Well, it passed yesterday. Supposed to be legal now, on a state level. Still federally illegal. So what was the purpose of this passing? Even if it is a good pain alternative, now what?
well, I suppose it's the first step for that state, right? Many (12) other states have already passed such legislation, totalling 13 now, and although I can only relate to CA, I know that here, it means that countless people who benefit from it's use no longer need to live in fear of arrest or jail time for posession or use, assuming they have the proper doctors recommendation etc..
The way I see it, is that it's one more state closer to having all 50 states, and then, how could it possibly be illegal on a federal level if all states have legalized it? Baby steps towards personal freedom. We'll get there.
I think MM is a bit of a joke in some respects.....bearing in mind I was a rock 'n roll guitar player most of my life...'nuff said.....I still think it is ridiculous in that you can get a MM card here in So Cal for nothing, just tell your doc you are stressed out and you'll get a card...... I know people who are just stoners and have a card.
Besides I don't see what weed does for pain really. I can see how it might help someone gain weight by getting the munchies...or drink more liquids because of cottonmouth .......but pain control? Not to mention it would suck to hit the bong and get a bad paranoia buzz right before surgery say....yikes...... imagine how many stoned back patients would be on the phone to their doc ..." Dude, I 'm freaking out here bro'.....!!!" 'll take opiates anyday for pain control over KGB from Humbolt County or some other variety of "The Kind".
I would be willing to bet that a large percentage of MM users are just stoners finding a way to get legal weed.
Clearly you just took a toke on some medical weed and got the giggles!
Seriously though....the exception to what I said is cancer and other really heavy conditions, terminal illness and stuff.... I don't mean to make light of what those folks are enduring and if marijuana helps I am all for it.
So yeah, it seems a good thing for those who really need an alternate form of relief from a serious condition.
But it is being abused too. Kids are getting it for mild psychological issues and other dumb reasons, just to get high. That's lame. If they are gonna get baked at least they should have to go score and run the same risks of getting busted the rest of us had to.
Can you please post an example of a kid who has gotten it for a mild psychological issue, just to get high? You're entitled to your opinions, but all you posted were negative assumptions .
There's a reasonable amount of research going on surrounding the use of marijuana with autistic children who have violent tendencies, but I hardly consider that a mild psychological disorder.
Personally, I don't consider medical marijuana to be any more of a threat to children than the many other non-controversial drugs currently prescribed to them. I'm routintely appalled by the fact that parents choose to medicate their children for behavior issues rather than making the effort to address the underlying issues directly.
Can you please post an example of a kid who has gotten it for a mild psychological issue, just to get high? You're entitled to your opinions, but all you posted were negative assumptions .
Wow, no need to get all twisted about it.....firstly you noted the humor in my posts....you also noticed how I said I could see the value for people with serious issues....you also noticed how I said I may be wrong and it was just my opinion.
I know a few guys who have MM cards who have no real problems other than what they made up to get the card so they could get high legally.
What about those kids in San Diego that wanted to be allowed to smoke medical weed while attending school? Give me a break! How liberal can we get?
You surely don't think medical marijuana is not being abused...... please.
Anyway, obviously you are very passionate about the topic and seem to be strongly for medical weed so I don't want to argue with you about it.
Again...it was just my opinion....just as you had yours about which states allow it, how it relates to personal freedom etc I don't agree with you but I am not picking apart your statements....your are also entitled to your opinion.
Bionic, I agree about rampant drug prescribing for kids without treating the underlying issues...... I am not so sure pot is the best choice either but that is just my own feeling.
The benifits of it could be argued for day on end personally being a young guy who has done my fair share of substances, medical or recreational doesn't matter if the goverment could find a way to tax it they would legallize it end of story, also in some of the states they passed a law that made under a certain amount "personal use" not a crime so that's a good step who needs to cause a kid problems when they go to college just because they got caught with a joint.
do abuse the medical marijuana law. I know this guy that does for a fact and he is nothing more than an umemployed stoner taking advantage of the system in many ways. I don't care that he (or anyone else)smokes it but the fact he claims he needs it for 'medicinal reasons' is purely a joke. Now, I don't think majority of the people who use this law are stoners by any stretch of the imagination but THIS GUY is.
Yeah this can be a hot topic. Personally as an older cat who has been there and done that having been a musician all my life, I would not want my kids to do what I did. Hypocrite, maybe....I smoked cigs also and would hate for my girls to take up smoking.Cigs are great for stress....but look at the side effects.
I really think it's a catch-22, with respect to side effects and safety issues. In order to determine the long-term side effects and safety issues, there has to be some consistency across quality and production, which really can't happen as long as it's illegal.
this is a fine subject, funny though, how in the thread supporting MM, ANYONE, who expressed any differing opinion, got the allmighty smackdown for a differing opinion...hmmm
so...
lets all keep thing in a tight perspective..
BOTH SIDES HAVE A RIGHT TO EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS!
and thats a humble opinion.
so..
remember spineys
its our differences that make us strong K?
there has to be some consistency across quality and production, which really can't happen as long as it's illegal.
Isn't the marijuana that is grown for medical use done so in a more controlled situation?
I know a guy who smokes a ton of weed, he's a wake and bake dude .....he has a younger brother and they both have medical marijuana cards. Recently the one brothers card expired and he needed weed so they went down and used the other brothers card and bought more weed. Hello!
Supposedly you can get all the popular kinds...... a smorgasbord of sensimilla.....yeah baby!!!
Oh these two pothead brothers ...mom and dad smoke weed also, liberal household and all.....the family that tokes together....
I do not smoke the stuff. I did back in the 70s and did not really like it then. I just thought that what you said about having a paranoid buzz right before surgery was funny.
Anything can be abused....hello, our med's are abused each and every day by people who do not need them for pain but for the high they get. Same with marijuana, people will abuse it, should it be stopped because of this? If something will help a person who needs it without horrible side effects I am all for it.
Bionic Woman, for the first time I am in full agreement with you. Children are medicated way too fast, parents need to look at the diet they are feeding their children and see if some of the problems lie there.
i do have to agree with the abuse of these cards that are allocated to numerous amounts of people for no reason.
i was warching DR Phil a few weeks ago and one of the staff with no medical diagnosis went to the doc and got a card by stating she had various symptoms.
i live in ontario and a small amount here is legal to carry.
ok . . . i live on the border in windsor next to detroit michigan. windsor is known as the amsterdam of north america. it's not only weed that is popular here. u can get it all. kinda scary. the night life downtown is literally crazy.
The problem lies with the fact that too many parents simply don't set boundaries and limitations for their children. When they're finally completely out of control, they label them with attention deficit or oppositional defiant and pump them full of drugs. ~X(
they label them with oppositional defiant and pump them full of drugs.
That's me....oppositional defiant!! I had never heard of it before...but I swear that sounds exactly like what I got.....I'm off to get my card. Heck, I live in So.California, they'll probably give me 3 cards.
Marijuana is a great skeletal muscle relaxant. Its also much safer than any prescription medication. Noone has died or overdosed on THC. Furthermore it does help with pain and especially fibromyalgia, KNOW THE FACTS AND DO YOUR RESEARCH.
There's two sides to every ounce of research. True, there has never been a fatality as a result overdosing. However, there's extensive research that shows marijuana acts as a gateway for abuse of other illicit drugs.
Many of us face extreme struggles to obtain even inadequate treatment for chronic pain. Do we really need to bring such a controversial drug into the picture, when it has such potential to act as a gateway to other illegal drugs and will link chronic pain even more closely with drug addiction and abuse?
oh geez , For instance if you were able to choose whether your kid would advance more quickly into a drug "gateway" Wouldnt you feel their spiral would be quicker if they tried opiates or other pain medications? Thousands die every year from opiates while marijuana users get a good nights sleep.
Research is important. And bionic woman as you say lots of us have trouble treating our pain. Wouldnt you like atleast one more non addictive way to treat pain ? It works for me and an estimated 200,000 others in California.
completely. There are more dangers with prescription drugs than with marijuana. Sure, it has potential for abuse but so do pain meds. Might be lots of people out there that should not have legal use of it but there are lots of people that are getting scripts for pain meds that should not have them either. We do not like it when people pre-judge us for using opiates or other pain killers, we should not judge the people that get relief from marijuana. This is just my opinion and of course everyone is entitled to their own.

Are you saying that ADHD and OD are not real? hmmmmm
I have a son and he IS ADHD. He's on meds. Are you saying that I'm a bad parent that has not set boundaries for him or limitations. My son went on meds at age 4. Not because he was overly hyper but because of the attention deficit issue. And he's NEVER been completely out of control.
The terms ADD and ADHD are used interchangeably these days. There are plenty of children, even adults, that are undiagnosed and would benefit from medication. The brain is wired differently. That's why the meds work!
Don't make blanket statements like that. Responsible parents recognize when their children need help and get it for them. They are advocates. They fight for their children. They fight when people make uneducated comments. I've been told by people who don't have a clue that they would never put their child on meds for ADHD. Fine, guess they would choose to ignore other medical conditions too. But you cannot tell me that I haven't witnessed significant improvements with my child.

amen. And if by 'devil' you mean medical marijuana, then I guess I invite the devil to bed with me every night because medical marijuana is the only thing that helps alleviate my insomnia. It's not for everyone, but hey to each his/her own.
By devil, I mean the controversy and the stereotyping involved.
Pain management is an area of medical pratice where patients are routinely refused medications, where we are denied appropriate care, where we are treated like criminals in our physicians offices, and forced to jump through hoops at the pharmacy.
Is the benefit to the thousands of chronic pain patients worth the risk of increasing the struggle for the rest?
Well, instead of devil then please say 'controversy and stereotyping' next time because when you say what you don't mean, I hear what you're not saying.
I fully agree that patients in pain live difficult lives, I'm one of them and I know that there are many whose lives are exponentially worse than mine. To suggest that a medical marijuana, which has less stigma attached to it than Oxycontin, is going to increase the struggle for us as chronic pain patients is fallacious. It is a drug that many disagree upon, but it's involvement in my struggle only helped my situation. How is it going to increase the struggle for others? I'm genuinely curious. I've never known anyone who uses controlled medicines for chronic pain to try medical marijuana, and then 'lose control' and become abusive with their meds. Or am I wrong?
I voted for medical marijuana last week, not because I use it (I don't and haven't for many years) or because I want to, but because I feel it should be up to PM to decide just like all the other pain meds. Sure, it'll be abused, just like anything else (look at alcohol and that's legal for anyone of age), but that doesn't mean it won't help some people. Dunno if I would ever try it...definitely not in smoke form..too many memories praying to the porcelin God but perhaps the drops or something. It's so new here that I haven't even heard when the legalization will be effective, nor have I heard my PM's opinion on it's use, so I can't say if I would or wouldn't use it. I won't rule it out tho, and certainly don't shun anyone else that uses it for their own pain/nausea/insomnia, etc. In fact, back when I was a daily user I remember discussing it with my then Dr and he said "the pot doesn't worry me, smoke that all ya want, it's what it might be laced with that worries me so you really need to know where you get your stash". I was shocked to hear him say that but he explained it using cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, alcohol and yes, narcotics as comparisons and it made sense to me what he was saying. If it's OK with a very good, very well respected Doctor, then who am I to judge anyone for using it? Heck, my ex b/f smoked it (and he's 20 yr older than me!) and as long as my kids weren't around him/it, I didn't care.
Regarding ADD/ADHD-I know it's not the topic of the thread, but since it's been discussed, I have a story to tell if it's alright with ya'll that some of you may not care to read, which is fine, but it just might help someone-maybe even a parent of a child like mine...my youngest son was in the office every single day in Kindergarten and was failing every subject. I was convinced that his teacher, who was definitely up there in age, just couldn't handle children and had no business teaching such young kids. I went to school board meetings to complain, had many meetings with her and the rest of the school staff, and finally transferred my kids to their current school. The next year he started first grade and the same problems existed only his teacher suggested I give permission for her and the counselor to test Ryan for "learning deficits", and naturally I agreed because I wanted the best for him. I had no idea what ADHD REALLY was...I always thought it was an excuse to make kids zombies so their parents didn't have to deal with them. I didn't want ANY part of admitting that my son could have ADHD, especially since my 2 older boys were both very good students and not at all unruly. But I did have to admit that Ryan was, as I endearingly called him, my "little devil chld". He presented challenges that I'd never experienced before including all the kids that had been in my home daycare that I ran for a few years. But the tests they did showed he matched the criteria 99.4% so I took the info to our family Doc who referred him to a Psychologist. His dad and step mom were adament that Ryan was NOT going to be medicated, and I was still not keen on it myself. In fact, I invited them to come to the Psych. appt with us so they could hear whatever that Dr had to say, and they did come with. Ryan was running around and making those goofy noises as always, as well as being pretty defiant for such a youngster and the Psych had no doubt at all that Ryan needed help...his battle was convincing me, Sam and Sarah. When we left, in the parking lot, Sam said to Ryan "see, now you have to swallow pills every day because you were being a little dink in there". That shot up an instant and huge red flag for both me AND Sarah. I think THAT moment was when I realized not only did Ryan have this ADHD thing, but from what the Psych said about signs and symptoms etc., I knew then that so did Sam (which explained many of our marital issues). So I began to give Ryan the medication he was prescribed (the morning battles weren't fun...I think all young kids are afraid of pills for some reason) and I instantly saw the change as did the school staff! It was AMAZING, and the best part was that my biggest fear was completely NOT happening...Ryan was still Ryan! He still had the same personality and was still just as loveable, sweet, funny and smart as he always was, but he could focus, and listen, and obey which meant he spent less time in the Principals office and in time out, and more time learning and doing! Not only did his demeanor improve, but so did his grades, and the amount of good quality sleep too! (He usually would talk and sing half the night prior to the meds) And the one thing that I never knew was possible from these meds...from the day he started taking them, he never wet the bed again! =D> I figured he wouldn't outgrow that till he was much older since I was a bed wetter till I was 13, as was my brother. Talk about a boost to his self esteem when he no longer had to wear pull ups or have a smelly room from something he couldn't help!
I couldn't get his dad to agree to have Ryan take the meds on the weekends with him so by the time he would come home on Sunday's he was so wound up it was ridiculous! Finally there came a point where I gave Ryan his meds before he went to his dads when he had to go in the morning for some reason, and both Sam and Sarah raved about how good he was that day and were so irritated the next day that he was "back to being Ryan". I told them what I'd done, and once Sam got over being mad at me for "tricking him", he realized that the teachers, principal, counselor, psychiatrist, pediatrician, Sarah and I were all right...the boy NEEDED this med in order to function normally. His brain needed stimulating, which seems like an oxymoron or something because he was already over stimulated it seemed, but that's how their brains are and the last thing they need is a depressant. Anyhow, there've been 2 med changes only and it's been 4 years since he started on them. I had the Dr try Vyvanse last year when it first came out and he hadn't prescribed it to anyone yet so he was leary but curious to see how it would help Ryan. (Ryan was still doing well in school, but by the time he got off the bus at 4pm he was back to his "non-medicated" self which meant homework was a complete nightmare for us where I would try so hard to help him and he not only couldn't understand but he couldn't sit still or stop with the constant noises he'd make or focus which made it impossible for him to learn the task but also caused me to pull out handfulls of hair and often put me into full blown panic attacks-dinner, bath/shower time, and bedtime were also impossible and I felt I was spending that whole time struggling with him rather than enjoying him and vice versa ~X( ) Ryan and I have discussed with the Dr just how great the Vyvanse is and how it gets him through homework time without having to take a 2nd dose of med during the day, etc. and how honestly we fell it's the best one he's been on yet, and now the Dr is comfortable prescribing to other children and last I saw him he told me that a couple of the moms told him to thank me for allowing my son to be the guinea pig of sorts for this new med and telling Doc how great we think it is-their kids are doing very well on it too, in fact as of that day Doc hadn't had any negative reports from the few patients he'd prescribed it for and he let his colleagues in the office/hospital staff know about it too. It's THAT good!
Anyhow, with the Vyvanse he doesn't need extra doses at noon that require him to go to the office at lunchtime (and everyone knowing he takes meds which can embarrass some kids), and we get thru homework and dinner time beautifully, and it wears off enough that he falls right to sleep at bedtime and doesn't wake up multiple times, and as I said, no longer wets the bed. In fact, I had made him a promise that once he had been wet-free for a year that he could get a bed heater like the rest of us have, and this year Santa is bringing him one-to celebrate such a huge milestone in Ryan's life that I'm sure he'll never forget!
The last thing I want to say about this topic is this-I have heard of people that have their children put on these meds that don't need it because what they DO need is parenting-but that's certainly NOT the case with most of these kids, especially mine...and when Ryan came home from school one day probably a couple months after starting on meds and said "Mommy, thank you for making me learn how to swallow these pills and for getting mad at daddy about it so he would let me take them too" (yes, he said LET ME take them), that was all the proof I needed that I had done the right thing, because in addition to me, the school, the Dr, and his daddy, RYAN knew he was benefitting from the meds and that he really does NEED them (he also was very proud that he was always making the honor roll and student of the month and other citizenship type school awards which is also super for a childs self esteem! )-and the most amusing part was when I was with Larry (the ex b/f that's 20 yrs older than me), who had ADHD REALLY bad but refused to take his Ritalin because he "liked" being "that way", Ryan went up to him one night before bed, climbed into his lap and said "Larry, you really should take your Ritalin too-you can be good like me and that makes mommy happy!" (at the time Ryan was on Metadate in the morning and Ritalin at lunchtime at school). Believe it or not, Larry did start taking his Ritalin after that-for awhile-and he realized how much he was actually getting done in a day be it yard work, working on cars, or just tooling around in his garage- rather than chasing his own tail in circles basically either trying to remember what he was going to do, or where he put something he needed, etc. He even thanked Ryan for "reminding him" to take his own meds.
I guess my point here is...Nobody can convince me that my son doesn't REALLY need his meds-and nobody can convince HIM either! Those of us who have kids that have these disorders know that parenting alone just doesn't work (and believe me, I tried EVERYTHING to try to teach my son self control and such, and one thing I DO know that I'm darn good at is being a loving mom!!!) and those of us whose kids do take the right meds to compliment the extra teaching of self control/impulse control/etc. know that our kids are FAR from zombies, and they're still the same kids, just kids with a medical condition that requires medication like any other. If my sons experience with this can help even one child in the world, then it was all totally worth it and I will continue to advocate for these children just as I do for injured workers and people in chronic pain and/or with disabilities, because everyone deserves that voice-and maybe if someone had explained things to me like this way back in the beginning perhaps I wouldn't have been so stubborn and wasted those 2+ years to finally see the light of day which in turn would've kept my little boy from being labeled as such a trouble maker and having to be punished in school or always told to stop the things he would do every day of his life. Luckily tho, I did finally see the light and now he's in jr high, his self esteem is right where it should be, and he's still acheiving those honor roll grades right along with his big brothers.
Thank God for that 1st grade teacher that cared so much to, on her own time by the way, help this mom to see how wrong she really was-to reassure me that my son wouldn't be a zombie and that I wouldn't be a bad mom if my son had ADHD or had to take meds to control it. In fact, I would be a negligent parent if I didn't help him to be the very best he can be, and if that means medication for whatever medical reason his Dr prescribes, then absolutely I'm not sorry and I have never regretted putting him on the meds-not for one second.
Sorry that was so long but as you can tell, this is a very passionate topic for me and just in case there was even just ONE PERSON out there that might come to this thread and read my story, and if their child/children might benefit from it, then I just couldn't take the risk of not putting it here when the subject was brought up. I just couldn't...
Thank you for sharing that story. I personally do not know of a parent that would want to medicate their child unnecessarily. Good doctors and specialists won't just hand out the RX for these meds without reason. I'm sure it happens but I don't know them.
We are going to try Vyvanse when my son turns 6. He starts having problems in the afternoon because the current meds wear off. But when the meds are clicking and doing what he needs, he sits and reads and does beautifully in K. He tries when they wear off but just can't. I'm hoping and praying that with time he will learn the self coping techniques that will help him not need the medicine. If he does need it for life then that's ok. His father is ADD. Lots of great people are ADD.
I hope your little guy continues to do great! You are a wonderful mother for taking the steps necessary to help your child become the best he can be! =D>
Thank you for your kind words. I really am just happy that someone seems to have benefitted from reading about Ryan's med. experience.
I just wanna caution you on one thing tho with the Vyvanse, just in case...Ryan was so tired the first day on it that I was called to go get him from school and he slept most of the day once we got back home. The 2nd day he was a little drowsy but didn't nap or anything-just was abnormally quiet. If this is a concern to you then I would recommend starting the new med on a Saturday, or during a school break/long weekend, something to that effect. Hopefully by doing that he'll be adjusted by the time he has to go back to school so he can engage in what the class is learning. It would probably be a good idea to discuss that with his Dr when he does start him on the Vyvanse.
I just can't get over the huge difference it has made in so many ways and I hope and pray that your son has the same success that Ryan did with it and that you will be able to enjoy many more moments simply enjoying him!
If you don't mind, please PM me when he's started on it and let me know how he does. Also, if you ever have any questions or concerns about ADHD or its meds, please don't hesitate to PM me and I will get back with you just as soon as I log onto SH, K?
Thanks for the info on V. I'll definitely keep in touch with you. Please feel free to PM me for any reason. A child ADHD is challenging and we all need to vent. Hope he continues to do well with the meds.
does anyone know when the legalization actually begins? Does that already apply since it passed, or does it start with the new year or...? I haven't heard the final details on it so thought maybe someone else might know. I'm also curious how long it will be before the Doc's in this state start prescribing it, and when we'll see the pharmacies and/or dispensiaries stocking it, when the cards will be available, etc. Just curious is all...
It is still against federal law. So, most Dr's will not be willing to risk the ramifications if they do write a Rx for anyone. My guess is it will be like California. Only a few Dr's will be doing the majority of the script writing (for about $250 I have read). Even then, you have to find a "pot store" that sells(very expensive) it with a script. They are raided by the feds on a regular basis. It is all quite rediculous. The people have spoken, give em their smoke! Not trying to get all political here, but reason #138 why we are not as "Free" a Country as we think we are...
hi everyone and yes this is my opinion for the subject .
i have had ulceritive collitius for about 18 years now and afew years back my butt doctor told me that some patients are doing really good limiting the amount of flair ups by smoking cigerates. i told him why would i smoke anything to help me and create another problem. he agreed with me but only told me this to be informative.
i will always choose to get my prescriptions where the man behind the counter does not have purple sunglasses on, and where he is not wearing a tye died tea shirt, and where he isnt listening to me because he is listening to pink floyd .
btw i do like the movie woodstock and the music in it, far out man :$ . also may all that have these smokin cards learn how to take care of their lungs .
again this is my opinion on the subject of smokin anything.
Why must everyone be so blind? Don't stereotype us just because you've never been there..
I've been a MMJ patient for a while, and have NEVER gotten my medicine from anyone with colored sunglasses, or any sunglasses for that matter; NEVER from anyone with a tie dyed t-shirt, and never with any stoner stereotypes in sight. Most dispensaries are staffed by volunteer, caring, loving, educated people like you and me who simply want to help those in need.
I, with a card, don't need to learn to take care of my lungs. I ingest my medicine, just like any other pill, so my lungs are fine.
Those are the FACTS, and they by far outshine your opinions and assumptions. Anyone have anything positive or fact-based to add to this thread? We focus so much on facts in the other meds threads, why not here?
What's the difference between MM and alcohol? You get the same type of high, right? I don't know what seems to be the problem with making it legal in the first place. Just my thoughts.
hey everyone as i said before what i posted was my opinion and wasnt pointed at anyone but just in general. if your upset about someones opinion about the subject verus facts, i dont know what to say. we are not here to push each others buttons. its just not that big of a deal.
Is marijuana not the same if you eat it? Why do you have to smoke it? Just wondering. I thought they made a pill which is alot like marijuana's effects?

Alcohol is typically consumed as a beverage, causes slowed reaction times, poor judgement, (terrible judgement), and major health problems. Many, many people act so terribly under it's influence they are arrested for violence, DUI's, etc, all the time.
Marijuana is totally different. You absolutely do not get the same type of high. It ranges from a mild feeling of well-being to muscle-tension relief, nausea relief, help with sleeping for insomniacs, etc. In other words, in can make you hungry, or energized, happy and awake, or mellow and sleepy, amongst many other feelings. The major difference between medical marijuana and alcohol is that alcohol is very debilitating; one becomes practically useless when drunk. When under the influence of medical marijuana, it POSITIVELY affects the user's life, typically in a way that other's around them cannot even tell they are using any medication, and just think they are 'normal'; which of course, they are.
I hope that answers your question. Lastly, drunk driving kills thousands per, I dunno, month, on a global scale I believe, whereas medical marijuana is responsible singlehandedly for ZERO deaths.
This is not an opinion based reply, but fact based; reference articles can be posted if requested. I hope this helps.
The subject was about legalization in a particular state, and facts were absent from your post, so I'm not sure what you are saying when you referred to them both, as if you were talking about them. Regardless, MY opinion was that you may not be fully aware of the benefits that medical marijuana has for many people, and many of the assumptions you made suggested so. I am simply sharing the knowledge I have so that you may better educate yourself, and possibly benefit from it's use yourself in time, or at least understand those who do.
Please do not make rude comments towards me; I have not and will do no such thing towards you. Your ideas and thoughts are just as important as anyone else's here. If you make negative assumptions or statements regarding something that many regard as positive, I am going to comment on it, what did you expect? Have a great night =)
It comes in many edible forms with which to medicate; there are synthetic THC pills that have not been nearly as effective, and with more negative side effects, than natural products. Whether it's a sucker, a cookie, a cherry pie, or a chocolate bar, there are countless great products that WORK (as tested by me and many others) without smoking a single thing. It's definitely not the same if you eat it; it takes longer to work, but lasts much much longer. You also avoid the carcinogens of smoke and for some, there are negative side effects with smoking vs. ingesting. I've never seen a single clinical test that showed that carcinogens in medical marijuana actually can cause cancer, although common sense says its likely, but nevertheless, many use it for life without issue.
Thanks for all the info. You made my point for me: if alcohol is legal and has all those negative impacts of the lives of millions, why the problem with legalizing MM? Believe it or not, I was a teen during the 60's and never tried it! Anyway, perhaps the medical/legal professions will come to terms with the many, many beneficial uses of MM.
well, I suppose it's the first step for that state, right?
I can see how it might help someone gain weight by getting the munchies...or drink more liquids because of cottonmouth
.......but pain control? Not to mention it would suck to hit the bong and get a bad paranoia buzz right before surgery say....yikes...... imagine how many stoned back patients would be on the phone to their doc
..." Dude, I 'm freaking out here bro'.....!!!"
'll take opiates anyday for pain control over KGB from Humbolt County or some other variety of "The Kind".
I would be willing to bet that a large percentage of MM users are just stoners finding a way to get legal weed.
I could well be wrong.....just my opinion.
You made me laugh out loud and I really needed that!
Personally as an older cat
who has been there and done that having been a musician all my life, I would not want my kids to do what I did.

Sharon
hey guys
my theory is whatever works!!
i do have to agree with the abuse of these cards that are allocated to numerous amounts of people for no reason.
i was warching DR Phil a few weeks ago and one of the staff with no medical diagnosis went to the doc and got a card by stating she had various symptoms.
i live in ontario and a small amount here is legal to carry.
ok . . . i live on the border in windsor next to detroit michigan. windsor is known as the amsterdam of north america. it's not only weed that is popular here. u can get it all. kinda scary. the night life downtown is literally crazy.
The problem lies with the fact that too many parents simply don't set boundaries and limitations for their children. When they're finally completely out of control, they label them with attention deficit or oppositional defiant and pump them full of drugs. ~X(
That's me....oppositional defiant!! I had never heard of it before...but I swear that sounds exactly like what I got.....I'm off to get my card. Heck, I live in So.California, they'll probably give me 3 cards.
I might not be so paranoid smoking it if I had a legal supply...
Marijuana is a great skeletal muscle relaxant. Its also much safer than any prescription medication. Noone has died or overdosed on THC. Furthermore it does help with pain and especially fibromyalgia, KNOW THE FACTS AND DO YOUR RESEARCH.
Why do you feel you have to yell?
There's two sides to every ounce of research. True, there has never been a fatality as a result overdosing. However, there's extensive research that shows marijuana acts as a gateway for abuse of other illicit drugs.
Many of us face extreme struggles to obtain even inadequate treatment for chronic pain. Do we really need to bring such a controversial drug into the picture, when it has such potential to act as a gateway to other illegal drugs and will link chronic pain even more closely with drug addiction and abuse?
Food for thought. No shouting required.
oh geez , For instance if you were able to choose whether your kid would advance more quickly into a drug "gateway" Wouldnt you feel their spiral would be quicker if they tried opiates or other pain medications?
I didn't say it wasn't effective for some people. I didn't say it wasn't safe. I didn't even say I was against it for pain management.
What I said was, in the words of my beloved Granny, why invite the devil to dinner?
The devil wouldnt bring thousands of pain patients relief and the ability to use a safer substance for their pain.
Well said thank you for your input
Dead serious. Just a simple question about a statement you made.
Dunno if I would ever try it...definitely not in smoke form..too many memories praying to the porcelin God
but perhaps the drops or something.
The last thing I want to say about this topic is this-I have heard of people that have their children put on these meds that don't need it because what they DO need is parenting-but that's certainly NOT the case with most of these kids, especially mine...and when Ryan came home from school one day probably a couple months after starting on meds and said "Mommy, thank you for making me learn how to swallow these pills and for getting mad at daddy about it so he would let me take them too" (yes, he said LET ME take them), that was all the proof I needed that I had done the right thing, because in addition to me, the school, the Dr, and his daddy, RYAN knew he was benefitting from the meds and that he really does NEED them (he also was very proud that he was always making the honor roll and student of the month and other citizenship type school awards which is also super for a childs self esteem!
)-and the most amusing part was when I was with Larry
(the ex b/f that's 20 yrs older than me), who had ADHD REALLY bad but refused to take his Ritalin because he "liked" being "that way", Ryan went up to him one night before bed, climbed into his lap and said "Larry, you really should take your Ritalin too-you can be good like me and that makes mommy happy!" (at the time Ryan was on Metadate in the morning and Ritalin at lunchtime at school).
Take good care, and God bless...
Have you really never heard that turn of phrase?
We are going to try Vyvanse when my son turns 6. He starts having problems in the afternoon because the current meds wear off. But when the meds are clicking and doing what he needs, he sits and reads and does beautifully in K. He tries when they wear off but just can't. I'm hoping and praying that with time he will learn the self coping techniques that will help him not need the medicine. If he does need it for life then that's ok. His father is ADD. Lots of great people are ADD.
I suppose it's one that never found it's way around my family, or my geographical area for that matter. *shrug*
All the best
Not trying to get all political here, but reason #138 why we are not as "Free" a Country as we think we are...
hi everyone and yes this is my opinion for the subject
.
i have had ulceritive collitius for about 18 years now and afew years back my butt
doctor told me that some patients are doing really good limiting the amount of flair ups by smoking cigerates. i told him why would i smoke anything to help me and create another problem. he agreed with me but only told me this to be informative.
i will always choose to get my prescriptions where the man behind the counter does not have purple sunglasses on, and where he is not wearing a tye died tea shirt, and where he isnt listening to me because he is listening to pink floyd
.
btw i do like the movie woodstock and the music in it, far out man :$ . also may all that have these smokin cards learn how to take care of their lungs
.
again this is my opinion on the subject of smokin anything.
