New to this site but really needing some peace of mind at this point. Been dealing with lower back pain for 5 years and I have tried many treatments to help manage this. Physical therapy, pain meds, hot/cold treatments and now I just had my second epidural. The first epidural was magical! I once again knew what it was like to live without pain and enjoy normal activity. Lasted about 3 weeks then I noticed it slowly start coming back so I had another. I am feeling some worse pain this time and wonder how long to wait before I should be concerned. FYI, when I first met with my back specialist it almost seemed like he didn't take me very serious so when I had to see him again a year later he finally did a bone imaging scan and found issues with me L4, L5. He seemed concerned but almost to careful in telling me how bad it might be and wants to try a year of these injections. Don't really know if this is the right direction but I am not the doctor .
Hi - I'm new too, but thanks for telling me about your experience with your L4 L5 epidural.
My mom has had 3 of the same epidurals. They help for a while, but they are NOT the solution to her problem. If I were you, I'd see a back specialist and get an MRI done of your lower back. That will tell the doc EXACTLY what is going on with your pain. I hope you find relief.
I'm also new, have also had epidurals, also L4/L5 are the problem.
Many years ago I suffered the same problems, the consultant told me it was an old injury, he put me on traction for 10 days, and fitted me with a brace which i had to wear for 6 weeks, it was like i'd had a miracle cure, i felt wonderful, no pain whatsoever.
This time however (24 years later) no traction, instead, nerve root blocks, epidurals, micro discectomy, physio, none of these treatments have worked, you'd think with all the technology we have, we'd be able to find something to free us from pain, at least for a little while.
I just had my second ESI done, with the first one, which I got 2 weeks ago, I noticed a difference but I was never completely pain free. After a few days, the pain started coming back.
This second one hurt a LOT! I've never had these done before, but as he was doing it, I felt this strong electrical almost burning feeling running down the front of my right leg, from the thigh all the way down to my foot. Is this normal?
It's been a few hours now and I'm still in pain and I'm left with a weird tingly sensation that keeps running down my leg.
