Epidural Injection Long Term Damages?

what im trying to figure out is, whether the Anti-Inflammatory Drug they use in Epidural spinal injections, can cause scarring over the area injected. im not talking about just 3 injections over the course of one year, if i may ask, i would like to hear from those individuals who have gotten the injections over several years, with or without success. and if anyone does know whether getting these injections over several years can cause damage, even though they relieve pain for some?
thanks in advance for any replies Smile

many years

I have been getting injections over a 5 year period both cervical and lumbar and have no long term effects of the injections. The lumbar has been over the past two years, and all i get is some relief, then they wear off and we do it again. The cervical spine have had them over the past 5 years, and don't see any type of issues you are asking about.

Do you have issues from a injection that was done long ago over a period of time, and if so what was the damage? Or maybe I am trying to figure out exactly what your asking, as I am not sure and never seen this come up here before. The same medications going in the injections is the same that is given orally in many cases but it is targeted to a specific area. But i have had no issues with them. I can say I have researched the doctors doing them and all have been under fluroscopic guidance.

thanks for the response. my

thanks for the response. my reason for asking is because if it does come up as an option for long term steroid injections. i was looking for input to see if it caused damages to nerves over time.basically if you keep stabbing the same area over and over with a needle are you going to hurt anything? im more or less just looking to educate myself and learn from other individuals. thank you Smile

Two things

Ongoing use of Steroids will likely cause damage to muscles/tendons/etc. This was one of the reasons, I was limited to 2 direct steroid injections a year (for my shoulders) and 3 ESI for the Spine.

Now, if the injection site is going to be the same, there will be some scar tissue build up and there is always a chance of loss of feeling near the site.

But both of these cases can easily be avoided.
