Upper Back Pain, Thoracic
Rhomboid/Lower Trap Pain

Hi,

I have a pain in that area that will not seem to go away. I lift weights and have been to the doc. He said if it doesnt hurt when I am actually doing something then I dont need to quit lifting weights. He wasnt able to exactly diagnose but said might be pulled/torn muscle.

I think what did it was supporting weight over my head (mill press) but I really have no clue, I am willing to lay off the weights but I would love to know what it is and what I need to do to get it to heal or get better.

Any comments plz.

It's so difficult to tell you what you have or dont have.
I make a point in telling all members here, that the advice we give is NOT medical advice but it is information based on some of our personal experiences.

I've been dealing with Thoracic problems for a long time now and really did not get relief. Now, I have found something that provides me with a way I can manage my pain and discomfort. (This was done via Deep Tissue Massage).
I am just going to venture and say that because you lift weights you are aware of your body and how to keep fit.
The rhomboid muscle is a very deep muscle and extremely difficult to work on. After almost a full solid year of physical therapy, we came to the conclusion that standard PT was not going to help.
But lets not jump anywhere. I would use moist warm heat several times a day and perhaps some mild stretching.
Without knowing any of your personal medical history, I will say that you might be experiencing some muscle problems. These can be very painful. Almost as a standard rule of thumb... IF after a week, of trying to 'watch' yourself and you dont see any positive results, I would want to see your Primary care physician. If its muscular related you should feel some improvements in a short period of time.
Dont try to be superman and ignore the pain but at the same time, dont immediately look at this as a major problem.
Good luck

Here's hoping...

that it's just a muscular problem that can be treated with meds and/or physical therapy. Just don't ignore it. If the pain doesn't decrease after a few days of laying off the weights I'd think another visit to your primary care taker would be in order. Whether it's as simple as a muscle strain, or a more serious spine issue, prompt attention is beneficial. Good luck.
