I had surgery back in July 09 and was wondering when and if I will be able to exercise again. I was getting better finally and decided to do a light workout and put myself in a lot of misery again. Has anyone had the same problem?
Have you tried any kind of aqua therapy? It's best to start out really low key and then gradually build up. Believe me, I've learned this through many set-backs along the way.
There is a great core exercise I've been doing and it doesn't create any spasms or pain in the thoracic area. It's a simple stair step. You just step up and down on a step with both feet meeting on the step and the floor. You do this until your tummy muscles tell you to stop. Our master bathroom is where I do most of my stretches and exercising. I use one of our towel racks to hold on to and do calf stretches, lunges, leg rotations, hip rotations, etc. Whenever I go to the bathroom, I stop and do a set of stretches. Not in the middle of the night, though. That's a no-no... sleep comes first.
Hope this helps a little.
I've been wondering how you are doing. Are you able to do much during the day? What are your days like? Are you still taking pain medication, muscle relaxers, etc.?
