Osteoclast Definition
An osteoclast is a specialized cell that absorbs and removes bone, allowing for the development of new bone and maintenance of bone strength. Osteoporosis can occur when osteoclast activity outperforms osteoblast activity so more bone is taken up rather than being laid down which can cause weakness and fragility in the bone structures.
