Degenerative Scoliosis

Degenerative Scoliosis: Degradation of the Disc Space and Facet Joints

There are two primary types of scoliosis: idiopathic scoliosis and degenerative scoliosis. Degenerative scoliosis occurs primarily in older adults (over 65) when the facet joints and disc space of the spine degeneration, creating instability and weakness in the back. This can create a bend in the back, resulting in scoliosis and a scoliotic curve of the spine.
