MRI Scan: Imaging Tool for Assessing Back Conditions

An MRI images the spine by using a magnet that goes around the body to excite hydrogen atoms that emit energy as they return to their normal level of excitation. The emitted energy is what is picked up by the scanner. An MRI scan is an extremely useful tool in the assessment of certain back conditions because it provides a detailed view of the spinal disc and nerve roots.
