Cortisone Shots, Epidurals & Insurance Questions

robinflrrobinfl Merritt Island FLPosts: 42

My surgeon is leaning towards putting in spacer devices for C/4/5/6 stenosis, bone spurs, and herniation. I got one cortisone shot (found out I'm allergic) and have an appointment with surgeon soon.

1. Do insurance companies make the surgeons try the shots first? I heard that was wondering.

2. Is the steroid in the cortisone shot the same  steroid as in the epidural?

I had an artificial disk put in C7/T1 December 2016. Two epidurals never worked. I don't want to have another.

    1. - Yes, they do. They want all conservative treatments first.
    2. - You would have to discuss this with your doctor or his nurse. Every doctor is different in what they use and the amounts.
Tell your doctor you do not want another shot and go from there.

Good luck and keep us posted.
