L4-5 microdiscestomy

hello, my mom had so much leg pain and she had a microdiscestomy surgery 5 days ago. We stayed at the hospital for that night and then we came home the following day. She does have some pain around the incision even she is taking hydrocodone and flexerile as needed for pain. The doctor told we can put ice and it helps for the wound pain. Also for a few days, when she stands up, she gets terrible neuasa and almost faints. Do you think that there symptoms are still normal 5 days after the surgery?

ThNk you!

    Welcome to Spine-health

Thanks for posting on behalf of your Mom and for helping her.

Your Mom is in early stages of recovery and pain is normal around the incision, so long as there not lots of swelling and hot to touch.  I took my temperature after surgery to make sure it wasn't raised by infection.  If you have any concerns about the incision site, call your doctors as the nurse would be able to check if a worry.

I also had problems with standing after surgery and some people do experience this.  Your Mom's body is trying to adjust, but again, if you are concerned about this, call your doctors to ask advice.  The sickness isn't something I had, so please check with the surgical team if this is acceptable for your Mom's case.

This site is good for support after surgery to chat to people that have had surgery as well.  There are Surgery Buddies groups under 'Forum Topics' that has lots of posts about surgery and recovery.  Your Mom could join in by adding a message when she is feeling more herself.  I found these groups very helpful.

I have added two links below to help new members with information and these also contain the forum rules.  There is lots of material to research that will give you the power of knowledge.

Please let us know after the checks with your Mom's doctors.

    Welcome to Spine Health

  • Thank You for your reply Ajgormit. She has been feeling well on the incision site but still has some neasua when she stands, it has been 9 days now and she has an op-post appointment next Wednesday. We decided to wait until her appointment and she will ask whatever questions she has to her doctor. Thank You!
