Still having nerve pain

hello hoping someone can help me out. I had l5s1 disectomy nov 16. Before my surgery my nerve pain was really bad. I lost use of my calf. I was in this condition for about 7 weeks before having surgery. When I had the emg before surgery it didn’t show any damage. I felt immediate relief after my surgery. I would have a little nerve pain here and there. I couldn’t run or I would have a spasm in my calf. I was able to play softball over the summer I would take lyrica and wouldn’t have any nerve pain. At the end of the summer 2017 I hurt my shoulder and had to stop working out. I ended up needing shoulder surgery and haven’t been able to workout in 6 months. Since then my nerve seems to be getting worse. I do have a super active job and it has been extra hectic during this time. I’ve had another mri with and without contrast and it came back normal. I’ve also had an epidural which didn’t help.  I was told the nerve can take years to heal and to do pt. I haven’t started PT just yet. Has anyone had the nerve pain go away after more than 18 mo the after surgery? Thank you all for any help/advice you can give
