L4/5 injections only lasted 1 week

I’m almost back to square 1 after my lumbar steroid/epidural injections and I don’t yet even have my follow up appointment booked (I will be calling tomorrow).

I’m so depressed about this. I also think I now have a problem with my neck where I am trying to lie in one position for months on end.

Is it possible they might try again? Or does a failed injection usually mean surgery is the only option?

    welcome to spine-health

so sorry you are feeling depressed about this.  the small positive here is that it did last a week.  different members have different outcomes to injections.  i did not get any relief whereas others have had good results.

only your consultant can tell you whether this means surgery or not.  there are no medical professional on this site but members can share their own experiences.  however their underlying condition may be different to yours.

please let us know how you get on at your appointment.

i have added two links below to help new members with information and these also contain the forum rules.  there is lots of material to research on spine-health that will give you the power of knowledge.

  • Usually they try three injections, spaced out by 3-4 months. If three don’t help, then you have to ask your doctor what he or she recommends next.
