Whiplash Question

I was in a minor car accident almost a year ago. Got some pretty bad whiplash as a result. X rays showed Loss of curve from c2 to c4. No fractures. Pain persisted through medicine and PT. Finally got an MRI 5 months after accident which shows degenerative changes and 2 bulged discs. I'm under PT care. And improving. There is a result on my MRI that I cannot seem to get a straight answer to from several doctors. Each says something different. Does anyone know what "slight deviation of the dens with a small retro odontoid pannus" means? I'm being led to believe it's not important and just part of the reading. I'm hoping that's true. Blood work is all normal. No RA or anything like that.
