Re herniation/ sciatica after l5 s1 microdiscectomy

hello everybody

I had a L5 s1 lumbar microdiscectony to relief sciatica back in 2009 after I herniated my disc. I have had no problems since until recently. I pulled my back and had very mild pain about 5 weeks ago. A week later I again felt the symptoms of sciatica in the same leg. However the pain is not as bad as last time and I can still raise my leg straight lying down and also touch my toes which was impossible the first time around. The pain is quite annoying , can anyone telll me if they have had these symptoms again since having surgery and how did you deal with it? Another surgery  or physio to relief the symptoms?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    welcome to spine-health

it is always best to get medical advice with diagnostic imaging if possible if symptoms return.

maybe start with your doctor for advice and go from there.  they will know the condition of your disc from the last imaging and work from there.

i have added two links below to help new members with information and these also contain the forum rules.  there is lots of material to research on spine-health that will give you the power of knowledge.

    welcome to spine health

  • You could also try the exercises and stretches prescribed after your first MD. But yes, imaging is the best start.
