About Me

Hello to all fellow sufferers of chronic pain. I am a 63 year old male and have been in some degree of chronic
pain for half my life. There have been more selective steriod epidural and nerve root blocks done than I can
remember! I've had multi-level lumbar fusions from L3-4 to L5-S1  including repair of broken hardware and a
complete redo of L5-S1 as a result of being rear-ended in a motorcycle accident. I've been diagnosed with a
multitude of abnormalities including failed back surgery syndrome, degenerative disk disease, congenital spinal
stenosis, epidural fibrosis, nerve damage, arachnoiditis, and have also had both hips replaced within a year of
each other from just wearing them out. I also have a Boston Scientific SCS implanted 10 years ago. I am classified
as disabled and have not worked in a number of years.

Along with all the physical trauma, I've suffered with psychological issues like depression and anxiety on and off
for years due to my conditions, as I'm sure many of you do also. Luckily I've been with the same pain management
doctor for many years who is as compassionate as he is wise, and has helped to keep me somewhat functional within
my limitations. Unfortunately, the result of years in chronic pain has recently been a major factor in ending my
20 year marriage.

Am currently suffering for the last 8 weeks from an almost unbearable case of sciatica, but will elaborate more on
that elsewhere in the proper place on the forum.

I'm glad to have found this site, most people can never understand chronic pain unless you've lived it. My best
thoughts and prayers to everyone here who is tormented both physically and mentally...I get it!!

    welcome to spine-health

you are now amongst new friends that understand the chronic pain and all the things that go with that.  it is good to read that you have a compassionate and wise pain management doctor.

sadly ongoing conditions can cause relationship breakdowns and i am truly sorry to hear you have suffered in this way.

i hope you find this site as helpful as other members do.  i certainly found it a great help.  it didn't take away my pain but it certainly made me feel less isolated, physically and mentally.  we have friends and people surrounding us that think they understand and sometimes put that swayed view into words, which can be very upsetting because it is not even close to what we are suffering.

sciatica is a terrible thing to endure and you have my complete understanding and sympathy.

please keep us updated on treatment you are able to receive for your current pain.  i hope you are able to get that pain under control as soon as possible.

i have added two links below to help new members with information and these also contain the forum rules.  there is lots of material to research on spine-health that will give you the power of knowledge.

    welcome to spine health
