Hello fellow spineys not really sure where to put this but I think I am in the right place. I have been walking with a cane since my fusion surgery 11 moths ago. I have left leg radiculopathy. Lately it seems that my right knee has been bothering me. I have never had any problems with my knees. Does anybody think it is because I am putting more weight on it? Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a remedy for this? I dont go for walks much because of my left leg pain. If it hurts this much now I wonder what my right knee will feel like in several years from now. Thanks again for listening........Hoot

It is very likely you are stressing your knee by using the cane.

How do you walk with the cane? Which side do you use it on, the side with or without the radiculapathy?

  • Hello, I use my cane on the leg without problems because that it is how they taught me at therapy. I just cant believe how much my right leg hurts. It just started recently it feels like someone hit me with a baseball bat. I am going to tell the PM doc in two weeks when I see him. Have a good day........Hoot

  • Hoot,

Glad to hear you have an appt soon. Really glad to hear your PT department showed you how to use a cane. Many folks are given canes without proper guidance and wind up hurting themselves.

    Have a great day yourself!
