This has been driving me crazy for awhile now. I have had a back issue for about two years where the effort of walking for some time will cause my back to start to "seize" and go numb. By numb, I mean, it seems to lose tactile feeling in the skin and deeper flesh just around the butt crack and on both sides.
A month ago, I had bariatric surgery (down 80 lbs. in a month!) and apparently something irritated it during the procedure because, upon waking, my back was in loads of pain. It has finally subsided, albeit my back is still sore and stiff. The thing that is really bothering me now, is the numbness of the skin around that area and the intense burning and ITCHING when I try to massage the area with a massage hook...or even with my hands and squeezing the skin and kneading it.
Apparently, during the surgery, they have you strapped to the table, but standing up so that gravity can do most of the work in arranging organs. I am wondering if this is some sort of piriformis issue, or if there's some problem with one of the sacral vertebrae. I have degenerative disk issues and general arthritis already, so I am curious to know if anyone else has similar sensations or issue.
