I have been reading all of your comments for months now and was always nervous to chat. Thank you very much for being here, I know now that I am not alone. I was injured 6 months ago at work. I am a secretary. I stood up from my chair and felt a pop, sharp pain and my legs gave out from under me. Before that, I was in good health, even though I am a smoker. Saw an orthopedist. He gave me muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatories, nerve meds and pain meds. I had an MRI which showed herniation at L5-S1 and started PT right away. I have had 3 spinal epidurals which did NOTHING. My legs give out so easily and the back pain can be so unbearable at times I can't even think straight! I had a discogram last week which made evrything worse. I couldn't move for days. Saw my doctor a few days ago. He was short and very much to the point- I have some type of tear in the disk and he is suggesting spinal fusion surgery. I am scared and don't quite understand what is going on. He didn't answer many of my questions. After reading some of your comments about the surgery- it makes me even more nervous. Will I ever be the same or is there no turning back?
