Hi All

I hope that you guys out there can help.....I've had a discectomy on my L4/5 (about 15% of disc cut away)back in Aug 08, everything was going well until 1 month into re-hab.
It turns out that it has re-herniated - and just protruding onto the nerve (after MRI). It's not as bad as before but I'm told that i should have a 2nd discectomy.

I'm told the 1st one failed because its just one of those things, I followed the rehab to the letter!
I'm worried that the 2nd one will fail, which i'm due to have in Nov 08.
What's the success rate 2nd time around for a discectomy??(I'm 36 and a keen runner and Cyclist)
Any help would be welcome

Many thanks

  • i had same done in 98 i was 18 multi level partial laminectomy
i worked as a painter after that for 9 years in 2005 i re hearniated it and i had a permanet charley horse for 6 months and i still dont have fealing from my but to my calves. i had chiropractic work done and to my surprise he stopped the pain but the dammage is done. they say i need surgery again and i would do it but not for my low back pain
my upper mid back pain is so much worse. they say it is linked somehow to my low back but i cannot believe that.
if it came down to it i think i would if i could be guaranteed about my level of pain 2 years and after. im just afraid of wacking out my spine even more i would not do fusion!! i have seen and heard bad things
