  • Vickers, Welcome to SH. This is a great site full of information and support. We are not doctors here so of course we can only give you our opinions and experiences. I am so sorry you are suffering so. Have you gotten a second or third opinion? We have several members who have had their hardware removed or are waiting to have it removed soon. I don't understand why they won't take it out. What level was your fusion? The spinal cord ends at L1, so it is unlikely to cause paralysis below this level, but of course there is other nerve damage possible which it sounds like you have some already. Are you getting pain relief of some form? There are many long acting opiates as well as nerve pain meds available. Do you have a PM specialist? Please keep searching for some answers. We really have to be proactive and be our own advocate for our healthcare as many would just brush us under a rug. Don't give up, keep reading this forum as there are lots of ideas here and people with similar situations/chronic pain. Take care, Sue
