Can Lumbar Epidural Injection cause rupture of Disc?

Had my second Lumbar epidural injection end of August. First one did nothing. About a week after the 2nd I had excruciating pain in my calf and ankle. A subsequent MRI revealed disc ruptured and fragment now compressing nerve... which did not show on previous MRI. Anyone have thios experience or have any thoughts about this?

  • A LESI is injected in the epidural space, it is no where near the disc itself. They even inject the disc directly for dicograms and that does not cause rupture, so I don't think so. Just coincidence would be my thought. Take care, Sue
  • Otherwise, I would have lots more ruptures going on!!!
