Skin Sensitivity

AnonymousUserAAnonymousUser Posts: 49,578
I havce an L3-L4 problem. Recently I hust the back again and this time the skin around my upper right thigh is very sensitive to touch, to the point that my pants rubbing against the thigh is quite a problem.
Anyone come across this problem?

  • Hi nickel, my issue is basically L5-S1 i have numbness right leg and foot, the foot has the skin sensitivity where i actually jump sometimes if someone touches my foot when it's bad. It's like an electric shock only way i can describe it.

    Have you had an MRI?
  • When I had an EMG on my foot I almost hit the roof. Have you seen a pain management Doctor yet? It's great since I joined here 2 months ago. See you around. Charry

I get that same type of pain, and it seems to come out of nowhere sometimes. I also have an area on the right side of my back that feels numb and tingly most of the time; one of my specialized physiotherapists said it's a sympathetic nerve issue.

  • 6/7 Years ago while lifting a bathroom worktop I damaged my back. Went to see a specialist who recommended physio/ultrasound etc. After a couple of months no change, still trouble standing up straight, regular back-ache. I went back to the specialist who then suggested an MRI (I presume this was not recommended immediately due to the cost, either that or his friend was the physio). I then went to the surgeon who said I had herniated my L3 and as long as I had no pain in my groin then he would not operate. He said the white blood cells would remove the protrusion over a couple of months and all would be well. As it happened I had planned a coast-coast ride around that time and decided to carry on with it. Over that week most of the pain disappeared ( I put it down to the cleats I had recently put on the bike). I still had some numbness in my legs when I walked or stood still, however when moving or doing any exercise, it was fine. Also while walking, the smallest thing in my pocket when feel like it was boring a hole in my leg. It was as if my leg was super sensitive. It did not affect the strength in my leg, it appeared to be just a nerve problem
I continued like this for the next 5 years with no real change. I was able too play squash, ski go to the gym twice a week with no other problems.
About 3 months ago I decided to attempt the Inca trail in Peru for a holiday. I needed some injections. About 2 days after my yellow fever jab the pain in my leg became constant. There was no relief when sitting or lying down. The pain would wake me up at night. After about 2 months I noticed that the numb section on my leg was shrinking. It seemed as if the numb portion was being replaced by a painful section. Now 3 months on the pain has significantly subsided and there is now more feeling in my right leg than in the last few years. It was as if the yellow fever vaccine triggered some sort of nerve regeneration (looking on the glass half full side of things). Hopefully it will continue to improve.
Anyone got any ideas what might be going on?

  • Hi, I had an L 4/5 brutal A/P fusion with cage, rods and screws fixated into the vertebrae. I started noticing the side of R my buttocks and thigh were different while in the shower, this expanded to my thigh and down to my outer knee, also up to my hip. They are kinda numb but the skin is also sensitive. I found out I have central and LR stenosis in L3/4.
    Take care and God Bless,
    Mary Anne
  • I am on the path to exploring if I have sciatica or another spinal issue but I too have noticed that my legs are very sensitive to when I wear long pants like jeans. I have been dealing with chronic hamstring, knee, calf, low back and generalized leg pain. The pain i feel is almost a "pulling/catching" sensation on my muscles...
