:H Hi Everyone, my name is Nikki and I'm new to Spine-Health. It is finally nice to have a place where I'm not alone anymore. I had my first back surgery when I was 16. I had a lumbar discectomy at L4-L5 and was doing well until a car accident in 1998. Then I found out that I had reherniated L4-L5 and L5-S1. I went through tons of PT and got back on track. Then suddenly, about a month ago I started having sever back pain with the leg and foot numbness. Everyday it gets a little worse. :''( I had an MRI this past wednesday and it showed that the central disc protrusion at L3-L4 is worse and is causing moderate central canal stenosis and has compressed and flattened the thecal sac. Also, it showed the L4-L5 broad based disc bulge and L5-S1 central disc protrusion with mild hypertrophy of the facet joints. Now get this, since Wednesday, I have fallen, my left leg is now going numb along with my left toes and leg and I have pain with (sorry to be gross but) my bowel movements. I can't stand it anymore. I'm at my wits ends. ~X( I walk and stand all day at work. Go figure that I work at a doctors office. I can't wait to see what my doc says on Wednesday when I go see her. So...just wanted to share my story and see if anyone else has gone through the same thing and what their outcome was. I've had tons of PT that I don't even want to go that route anymore.

Thanks for everyones support.

  • Wow, sounds like you have had a tough time of it. I'm so sorry. Spine Health is a pretty good place to share your pain as everyone is dealing with it in some manner or another. Are you on any pain meds for this? Good luck and hang in there.
  • :) hi and welcome to the forum! :H we are here to offer you support and answer what questions we can. when it comes to having problems with your bowel movements it is time for a change in treatment. your doctor should know this immediately and the sooner your MRI is read the better. :? you sound like you are in a terrific amount of pain as well. please make sure you listen to your doctor and if surgery is recommended get that second opinion. =D> good luck and make yourself at home here! Jenny :)

Welcome to Spine Health, its a great place to come to for support and advice.

See your doc on Wednesday and if you need to, take notes of what she says. I often go to the docs with a list of things I want to discuss with them.

If you ever just fancy a chat come along to the chat room. Its a friendly place, we chat about our backs but also just try to have a laugh and joke, to lighten our moods a little.

Take care and please feel free to send me a PM if you want a chat. I also have shared some of your health issues so your not alone.

    Love n hugs

  • Hi Nicky, I am so sorry u r in so much pain, sounds like u are going through the mill so to speak!!! Are u on pain medication??, I know its hard day in day out coping with pain, it isnt easy, its horrible infact, m hoping u wont have to wait too long for an mri, thinking of u and sending u gentle huggs xo
  • i did have an mri and as for meds, the only pain meds that i'm on right now is ibuprofen. i take other meds for diabetes and for depression (which started when I had my auto accident in 1998 and had severe back pain.) my doctor didn't want to put me on anything until the results of my mri came in and now she wants me to wait till i see the spine specialist. so now i sit and wait to find out when i get to see the doctor. wish me luck!
  • Welcome to spine-health,good luck seeing the spine specialist...
  • Wow, sounds like things are pretty bad for you right now. When you see you doc, sounds like you need something a whole lot stronger for pain meds. Does the stress from the pain affect your blood sugars. I would think that would be a possibility. You sure have had a tough time of it.
Glad you are here. THis is a great place for support.
  • Yeah, my sugars are going crazy too. But this pain, the pins and needles, no sleep, and still having to work and move (yeah, i'm moving into a new house too) is driving me INSANE!!!!! 8} Tuesday just isn't coming fast enough. Not to mention, I see my PC tomorrow and she's worried about kidney problems along with my back problems. So, lets just doulbe whats going on. Thanks for the support!
