Nerve conduction tests, EMGs??

AnonymousUserAAnonymousUser Posts: 49,578
Received a referral to a neuro with the intent of receiving an EMG/Nerve conduction test. Has anyone experienced this and di it help at all?

I have bilat foraminal stenosis L5/S1, and pain with sitting that has not resolved...but it doesn't seem to be from the stenosis....or maybe it is. Perhaps this test will tell?

Still doing PT, had ESI and will return for another in January.

  • These are very useful tests for the Dr that shows if there is any nerve damage/pinching or problems with the electrical "currents" if you will that travel within all of us. They put these needle type things just into the surface of your skin (in my case it was in my legs, bottom and low back, and don't let that scare you-it's not painful but more like a little pricking type sensation and they don't go in far at all). You won't get any pain relief or anything from it, it's simply another diagnostic tool for the Dr to assess the damage you might have and to verify if a nerve is pinched.

Here's a link to some info here at SH that should tell you all you need to know about these tests: http://messageboard.spine-health.com/viewtopic.php?id=13101

If you don't mind, please come back here and let us know how the test goes and what the results are!

    All the best...
