I've had a really bad gagging problem for about a week now...it seems to be getting worse instead of better. This morning I woke up and it felt like I was being strangled...lot of pressure on the neck area. As soon as I sat up...I burped like I had just drank a 2 liter bottle of soda or something. It was weird. What the hell is going on? I've been having a little bit of pain at the incision site too. (I had a 2 level ACDF c4-c6 three weeks ago). Not bad pain but definitely some pain. There is also a very noticeable lump there. I guess before I go calling the dr I just want to know if its normal or something everyone goes through. If it is....I can wait to bring it up at my appointment in 3 weeks. If not...I will definitely call right away.

  • I had a 1 level fusion c5/6 in 3/08 and remember having the gagging or what felt like gagging. I also had a lump behind my incision, call my dr and they wanted to see me. Went to the office and they had me go for a blood test to make sure I had no infection. Fortunatley I had no infection and the lump went away with time. But I would get it checked out, you never know and don't want to take any chances on the surgery not being successful. Good Luck.
  • it would be better to be safe and touch base with the doc

is the pressure in the front or back? just curious

good luck and pls make your doc aware so you can relax and get better w/out worry

  • The pressure feeling is in the front. It's been there since the surgery...at first I thought it was the wound vac...but still there after that was removed...then I thought....maybe it's because of the steristrips...still there after I removed those....I've eliminated everything it could possibly be. The gagging isn't usually that bad...mostly happens if I move my head to far forward or to far backwards and it's really minor...just the past couple of days its been really really bad. I've been sleeping a lot the past few days to. Like....sleep for 5 or 6 hours and then up for 2 or 3. I think I might be catching a cold. I wonder if that might make the gagging feeling worse? The cold would explain the fatigue. Usually when I'm sick...all I want to do is sleep.
