Leg pain

  • You might want to look at the the forum for PAIN and REHAB. If you can't find something on sciatic, you could start one.

One suggestion I have for you is a stretch that you should try to do several times a day. All you have to do is lie there, so you can do it while talking on the phone or watching TV.

Find a chair that is a comfortable height for you. Lie on the floor with your body facing the chair. Rest your lower legs on the seat of the chair. From your hips to your head, you will be flat on the floor (no pillow). Keep your arms by your sides, flat on the floor. If this is comfortable, try the more difficult position: lie on the floor with your buttocks close to the wall. Put your legs straight up on the wall so you are lying in the shape of the letter L.

This exercise relaxes the lower back muscles, the muscles of the buttocks, and unloads the discs, reducing compression in the spine and the piriformis muscles.

I hope you will find one of these positions comfortable. Just try to relax as you do it -- breathe deeply and let your mind go. I hope it provides a little relief!!
