Hello all, New guy here. I am about to go through my 4th neck surgery. Two where they just shaved the disk off, they called it a MED procedure, one fusion where the first MED was performed and now the 2nd fusion were the last MED was performed. The first two were at C5-C6 now we are at C6-C7. My first Doctor had me in a neck brace for 6 weeks and out of work for a month after my first fusion. My new Doctor told me that I won't be in a neck brace at all and can go back to work in a week and a half to two weeks, depending on how I feel. I am a developer so not to phyiscal. Have any of you had fusion where you didn't have to wear a brace? The Doc says the plate that is drilled in will hold the bones for fusion. They are going to be using the plate from last time. Any insight that you all can supply would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim

  • My doctor is one who believes that there is enough hardware in there that I wasn't going to hurt myself. I'm glad he didn't so I have full ROM now and have had since just after surgery. It's the shoulder pain that I have that still does me in. I haven't heard of the MED procedure before. Now you have me interested and curious. :B I'm a Network Administrator so I was working from home the day after my ACDF. I didn't actually make it back into the office until 6 weeks after my surgery. I wish you well.
