Pre-Op Appointment for 12/19 Surgery!! Feeling Positive

Well I had my pre-op appointment with my neurosurgeon this morning and everything seems to be falling into place. He confirmed I am having a Laminectomy Interbody Fusion w/pedicle screws L4/L5. I must say I am pretty calm B) and feel really positive about the outcome. I plan on taking a notebook with me to the hospital so I can keep a Post-Op journal to track my progress.

My surgery is at 7:30 so I have to be at the hospital at 6:00 I) . My hospital stay is anywhere from 1-3 days. I will be in a Spine&Back ward so hopefully I will have empathetic nurses. I will have a semi-private room so my hubby will be able to stay the night with me to be a spokesperson for my pain management.

For anyone having surgery I encourage you to think positive and take a list of questions to your surgeon pre-op. Of course I expect to have some jitters the day off, but I honestly feel like I am in excellent hands. I also want to thank all of you on this site. The information on here is so helpful and encouraging. I thank all of you for your support. >:D<

  • That's awesome!

I really hope you do well. I'm going through it right now and have had a much harder time when my attitude has been bad. So, keep up the good spirits!!

    God bless,
  • I hope you have some "feel good" days in the near future. Back pain is the worse.

  • Hello So Over It, your surgery sounds like mine. The first 2 weeks were hard but manageable with pain meds. I wish you well with your surgery. Hang in there, keep a positiive attitude, and follow all those doctor's instructions. Ice and heat are great too for pain relief. Good luck, Cali-Sue
  • Thank you Cali-Sue.

Today, I went to the dentist (a pre-op suggestion) and walked out with an unexpected root canal :''( The procedure was painless with 6 injections....now the numbness is wearing off. Well, can't be any worse than back surgery huh ;)) ?
