Hello everyone...my name is Nancy, I'm 47 and USED to be very active...cycling, weight lifting, and sea kayaking. I hurt my back in May of 08 while doing squats at home on my Bowflex. Doc says I have degenerative disc disease and a herniation at the L5-S1 level, accompanied by ridiculously frustrating, painful and stupid sciatic pain on the right side, clear down to my toes. After my original injury, which didn't include any nerve pain, I was able to kayak for two weeks in Alaska with my brother. My back hurt every now and then, but mostly felt fine. Lots of activity in setting up, breaking down camp, paddling, walking long distances for food (in bear lockers) and latrine ( anywhere below the high tide line!). No problems until I came home for one week and then went to Calif. to spend time with my family...I live in Georgia. After a few days of relative relaxation, my pain increased to the ridiculous point. I've had the 3 epidurals with some improvement, maybe 30% with each one, but by the time I got the next injection, all improvement was gone. So, here I am, waiting for Jan. 7, when I'll start up the epis again...2 weeks apart. I'm hopeful this will do the trick. So, after all this, my question is what have y'all found to be the most effective exercises to lessen pain? I'm tired of Lortab and I hate Lyrica, but take it anyway as it seems to help...it at least gets me through the night. Oh yeah, anyone else feel comfortable speaking about the devastating effect this has on one's sex life?
