I know that several of us, including myself have been dealing with post surgical nerve pain. Mine has been in my right thigh and has been really bad, even effecting my sleep. (I only slept 2 hours at a time last night.)

I had an appt today with my surgeon's partner (since my surgeon was on vacation) to get my stiches out so I was able to bring up ny nerve pain issue. After reviewing my incision, reflexes, etc. they believed it was not an infection or a new hernication of a disk above the surgery. But it was normal nerve irritation from the surgery. Unfortunately, it may not go away for a while. So, in order to deal with it they are taking me off of neurotin, and switching me to Lyrica for the nerve pain. I am really hopeful that this will help the pain. Plus, it just feels good to know that what I am experiencing is normal (even if it is painful).

I hope this information helps some of the rest of you who are experiencing post surgical nerve pain. >:D< Let me know if you have any questions.

  • That's good there's no new herniation. I hope the Lyrica works for you. It helps my leg pain. I hope you get some sleep tonight. Charry

  • I hope the Lyrica helps you with the nerve pain. It's supposed to work better than Neurontin. I have taken Neurontin before but it didn't help me. Later on after you have fused, the surgeon might put you on an anti inflammatory to help out with the nerve pain as well. Get well soon :H

  • I had horrible nerve pain right after surgery -- I still think it's pretty bad, but when I think back to the days right after surgery, I know they were traumatically horrible. I was put on Lyrica and have to say it helped quite a bit right away. I had issues getting my insurance to pay for it, but within the first week or so, that was straightened out. It's a good med and I hop you will get some relief from it. I am now getting to the "I want to be better yesterday" syndrome. I have no patience with being laid up, so I'm hoping I'll be back on my feet soon.
