steroid injections and diabetes

I saw an orthopedist today, hoping that he would recommend the x-stop for my lumbar stenosis, but he was insistent that I try the epidural injections first. I came home and did some reading about them, and aside from my worries about the pain, I am concerned about the effects on someone with diabetes. From what I read, steroids can aggravate diabetes and hypertension. Has anyone dealt with this complication? Are the injections really safe for someone with diabetes and high blood pressure?

  • Hello Momgag,

You have raised some very good questions. In my opinion the best person to answer your questions is your doctor.

YES, epidurals help. They have been working for me for almost 2 years now. Pain with the injection? I had a little pain for a few moments during my first epidural, but since then it has just been a little discomfort.

Take care. I wish you the best. Do let us know how things work out for you.
