Amrix...new muscle relaxer???

Hey there...
I went to my regular pcp today b/c of the horrible flair up I'm in right now and he gave me a new muscle relaxer called Amrix...it's supposed to last 24 hours and he told me to take it at night b/c it causes big drowsiness. Does anyone take this and what do you think? I've been in almost constant spasm for about 3-4 days and my zanaflex and skelaxin hasn't touched the spasms. Maybe I'm used to them?

He also upped my pain routine from oxycondone 10mg twice a day with break thru endocet to oxycontin 20mg twice a day with break thru endocet. So far, I can't tell I've taken any narcotics in about 4 days since my flair up. I was hoping for lyrica like we talked about, but he wanted to stop the spasms and said we'd add it next time. He's very nice and I'm sure he will. All this stuff is getting pricey though :(

BTW, is oxycontin or mscontin better and which is cheaper...I know kadian is very $$$$, right? He mentioned that one other time, and I'm so happy he didn't Rx it!

  • I've taken Amrix for the past month, it is Flexiril in an ER tab. I had some drowsiness but it wasn't too bad, much less than my Vicodin. (I was taking both the Amrix & Vicodin at night so it's hard to say how much drowsiness was from the Amrix.) My PM doc thought I was having muscular problems which turned out not to be the case. Unfortunately I'm not sure how well they work on spasms because I didn't have any. I did not have any side effects though.

Oxycodone is a generic of OxyContin and will be inexpensive. I believe mscontin is a name brand and would be more expensive. MSContin is morphine sulfate, not sure how it stacks up against Oxy but when I was given MS in the hospital I really hated how I felt. It was okay for pain relief except for the bad headache I got.

I am taking Lyrica, there's no generic for it so it's pricy too. I think it's worth the $$$ because it has nearly wiped out the sciatica I had!
