Pain from the back to ribs

I have been having this problem for about two years now, it starts in the middle of the back then radiates around the rib cage. It feel like that I have a vise around my chest and it makes it hard to take a breath. I cannot stand or sit up straight for any lenght of time because it feels like I have something weighting down on my rib cage.

I just found out that I may have some heirnated disks in my upper spine or thorax area.

Sometime the pain is so bad I just cry, this pain never goes away, I take muscle relaxers and pain pills everyday to try and help ease the pain, but if I stand/walk/sit for any lenght of time they are no help.

Not sure if this makes any sense to anyone, but any information would be helpful

Thank you,

  • Glad ya found us! You me and quite a few others have the same problem in an area thats not supposed to be messed up. I take a muscle relaxer to try to ease the symptomes a little.
It makes perfect sence on how and where it hurts, theresnot many of us but it doesnt lessen the pain.
We understand the frustration that comes from not being able to do much at all, and if ya came from a active lifestyle, it can be worse.
come in from the cold and sit awhile at our little spiney village on the web!

  • Taken Texas Lady,

Know that you are not alone, as mentioned above, we are few, but we are 'special'. I have had the same ridicular pain path as you. And since non of us our doctors, we can only tell you what we have done. I am not sure which doctor has been helping you - but obviously someone, since you have been taking medications. Have you had any testing done MRI and so on?

I have been having the same issues you discribe since 4/07 and have been seeking out why? Sorry to report nothing definite. I have clean thoracic MRI - but cervical (neck) has some issues. They have been thinking the neck was radiating into the area between my shoulders - but now they are not so sure. I am seeing a new specialist tomorrow, and perhaps he will be more helpful.

I will glading pass on any experience i get from this doctor tomorrow. But again- everyone is wired differently, but it sooooo helps to have somewhere to ask the questions. I hope you have a chance to read thru all the forums, go to chat and read the articles. It truely is helpful.

    Take care - pfm
