hi everyone

What a relief to find this site.
My name is Jane. I'm 34 and was diagnosed with a prolapsed disc last august. I have been on medication and have tried nerve block injections.
The pain is still really bad and I have been referred to the surgical team now. Nothing as been explained to me & I feel very lonely. I'm a single parent to 3 children.

  • Hi Jane. Plenty of good people here who are always here for us. Hope you can get all the answeres to your questions. Come here often & let it out, we all listen. Take care & let us know what you decide. God bless,

    Norm :) :)
  • I am also pretty new here but it is such an awesome place to get support and advice. The fact of finding other people in similar circumstances makes life a little easier to bear. I was so excited to get a bit better understanding of where my pain came from it gave me a sense of power again. Hope to talk again soon.

  • Welcome.

I'm always sorry to read new members with children who are in pain.I was a single parent too,and raised my boys alone after my divorce.Their dad didn't take them too often, maybe on a Sunday-but not every other weekend like some dads do.I know how hard it can be as a single parent in pain.

Yeah-it seems like a lot of Drs aren't that great at explaining our problems to us are they? We're lucky if we get a diagnoses, and then if we have computers, the time, and some knowledge of our situation we might be able to at least learn enough to settle our nerves about the whole situation and maybe-just maybe we can even learn to relax a bit.

So,you are going ahead with the surgery then? Is this your first opinion, and do you have any nerve damage that you know of?

There are a lot of people here all in varying degrees of pain, had surgery/surgeries,waiting for surgery, puttin off surgery, etc.,the list goes on and on.The one common bond that we all share is that we all have some level of pain.

Now you are no longer alone~in this at least :)))

    *PS~Please keep us posted.
  • thank you for all your support. Its so nice to know there are other people who understand what I'm going through altho sad at the same time that you are all suffering too.

I have had physiotherapy since last summer, then had nerve root block injections, these actually made the pain worse for me & resulted in me having to use crutches to walk. I have now been referred to the surgeons. I'm still awaiting my appointment which is making me stress out. The doctors told me the pain in my leg is caused by the protruding disc trapping the nerve. I have been told that they can not stop the lower back pain & I will have to rely on pain relief for that. I don't know if the surgeons will tell me any different.

I'm finding it hard to cope some days as I can't always sleep at nite & find myself falling asleep in the day mid-conversation :S This causes much amusement to my children now they have stopped being scared over it hee hee.

Again Thank you everyone for your help x
