Tailbone Pain

WendeWWende Posts: 51
I have been waking up every morning for almost a yr with a pain/burning in my tailbone. It is at its worst when I bend forward or try to lift my leg while laying or sitting down.or if i walk too much. Does anyone know if this is a symptom of sciatica or if it's a symptom of something else or both?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

  • I started having moderate pain on my tailbone yesterday. I am going to blame it on sciatica.

Hope you will find the answer to your question.
  • I have tailbone pain too and I also contribute that to sciatica. I use heating pad on it. I use ice after getting an epidural because it hurts then. They have gel cushions, I got mine online not too expensive and there's a little opening so your tailbone doesn't touch the chair. It's called coccyx cushion. Have you had an MRI yet? Take care. • I had an mri in june of 2008. I go bk to see my neurosurgeon on april 8th. Hoping something gets resolved and I don't listen to the little birdies that tell me not to have surgery again.
  • I do hope your MRI shows some healing. I've had facet joint injections by the Pain Management Dr for the facet joint arthropy. I'm not sure if that would help you. The way the Dr tested me was put my hands on hips while standing and try to lean back at the waist. I had greater movement after the injections. It's all due to the herniated disc as your body is reacting to the herniated disc and can cause arthritis (arthropathy) in the lumbar area. Were you treated for the last year by a PM Dr? What kind of surgery did you have? Let us know the results of your new MRI. Take care. Charry

  • Have you tried any pain relief meds? I have bad tailbone pain a few years back. It is a terrible thing! You can actually go to EDITED where you can order Tramadol pain relief meds or other meds for cheap without a prescription or insurance as they use online U.S. licensed doctors and pharmacies to review, issue and ship your meds.

  • My tail bone pain feels more like spasms, and it worsens when my low back pain worsens. My pain was relieved significantly when I had rhizotomies done (radiofrequency ablation) a couple of years ago, but the pain sometimes returns with a vengeance. I was waking at night with it a few weeks ago, but it has eased off again; it seems when things are really inflamed in my low back, everything worsens. I also find that ice eases it enough to make me comfortable again. I am on heavy duty antiinflammatories, Gabapentin and Methotrexate, and none of those seems to control it.

  • I have been through this sciatica problem off and on for 14 yrs now. This is the longest I have been off from work over it ( havent been to work in almost 5 weeks ) or whatever the problem in my back is. I cant do household things without having pain. I cant walk far, bend over ride in car or sit for longer than 30 minutes without having to move around or lay down to take off the pressure. Even if its for a few minutes. When I am sitting I have to move around in the chair to get comfortable, feet up, feet down, sit sideways, change to otherside, lean forward, lean back. I dont know what the heck to think anymore. All I know is I will gladly do what the NS says to do. As I am tired of this pain. I had a break of the lower back pain except for the tailbone from 9/09 to 12/09 then from 1/09 to 3/09 maybe its never really gone I have just learned to ignore it well enough to mask it until it bites me in my butt. Literally. Do herniations ever heal or do they remain and keep on aggitating until you get them fixed surgically? Or do they heal and then resurface when you do something to undo the healing?
