I have learned so much from the site and I want to thank everyone for their support. I learned about a discogram and emg. My op has not even mentioned them. He said only a spinal fusion could help me. I think a need a few more test first. Is there a test that can check for bone spurs from the facet joints pressing on the nerves. I have all the symptons of facet joint disease, herniated disc, sciatia, L-5 nerve root impringement and S-1 nerve root impringment. Thank the lord, I have an appointment with a ns next Tuesday. I hope he/she can help me. If I have to have surgery I rather have a ns then an op.

Take care.

  • an MRI scan
  • I know they have injections they can do into the facets. Did you research under facet injections, facet blocks or try radio-frequency ablation (I can't remember if that's for the facet or not). Hope this info helps and good luck with everything. I'm glad you turned to SH for help and support as no one knows how you feel other than a fellow spiney.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or just want to chat.

  • i believe just an xray will show a bone spur. xrays are greatat showing bones. it was the only tool my hip surgeon needed to determine i needed new hip....
  • In my case the only test that the bone spurs on my facets showed were on the ctscan. I had MRI apprx 7 months after CTScan and it never mentioned the bone spurs. I've got them at L5/S1 and L4/L5. I don't know what causes them or if it's necessary to have them removed. I guess it would depend on the severity of them.
